So guys, at what period of time do you guys think was the sport of boxing was at its all-time peak? The time where there were multiple superstars, champions, and contenders across most if not all of the weight divisions? The time when you could ask the common man on the street about boxers and they would know who they were?

  2. 60's and 70's when Ali and Frazier were in their primes. An argument can be made for the 40's and 50's because Welterweights, Middleweights, and Heavyweights were all getting attention... but I'm sticking with the 60's and 70's because that's when boxing was REALLY big.

Probably the 20's through the 50's. Sure there were great fighters before and since , but during that era boxing was still second in popularity only to baseball.
There were more gyms , more fight venues, less titles, less weight classes, more boxers, more competition, and the great trainers were still around.
A boxer had to fight more high quality opponents to get a title fight. Getting a shot was more of a rarity, so the opportunity was more cherished, and it showed in the boxers performances.
A lot of the so called greats of today can't even go 12 rounds full speed, how would they have gone 15, or more, time and time again?

    The 1920s clearly

That was when the sport was at its zenith, Dempsey-Carpentier took $1m gate. Imagine that in todays terms.

Boxing has been on the slide ever since

Apparently boxing has been dying since the great depression.

    Yet here we all are.

Has to be the 80's with the 70's not far behind.

With the 90's not long after.:patsch:oops:
Remember that cable/satellite TV killed boxing as a mainstream sport.

    1937-1990.

If you want to be more precise, 1971-1990.
