In your view, how does a positive steroid test affect a fighters legacy?

Doesn't seem to have done Holyfield, Tyson, Toney & Jones much harm.

 

Theres no proof to those guys that you mentioned besides Toney, and I think it tarnished his career a bit.

Its like saying how do feel about fighters putting plaster in their gloves? Its cheating in a bad dangerous way and should effect them big time.

No idea tbh, a lot of things get swept under the carpet. Its like the Ben Johnson steroid thing, he gets banned, few years later Carl Lewis & Linford Christie were found to be taking drugs, didn't really hear much about it.

Almost every1 if not every1 r doing it 4d last 15 yrs or so , many did it more than 25 yrs ago .
another thing is that those who take steroids 4 bulking purposes hurt themselves 1st and 4 most as they match themselves over needlessly bigger opponents instead of being d bigger men themselves .
It was proven again & again that d taller man is d successful man in this sport : d Klitschkos , Valuev , Louis , Ali , Holmes , Foreman , Lewis , Hearns , WSJ , Joey Maxim , Ezzard Charles , Al Cole , Juan Carlos Gomez , Evander Holyfield , Riddick Bowe , Michael Spinks , Panama Al Brown , Kid Gavilan , Michael Nunn , Frankie Liles and many more . d non HWs here usually started 2 lose only after they bulked and lost some of their relative height advantage over their opponents . if some1 still wants 2 bulk in this sport , more power 2 him .
But 1 steroid does not equal another and maybe some of them should b banned and their ban should b strictly enforced .

Only in his first pro fight... following that, Roy was tested numerous times & always found clean.

 

After the Richard Hall fight they both tested positive.

 

Is it really that much different than a guy weighing 190 and fighting as a middleweight?

 

first, cheating is cheating, steroids are no different to other drugs/techniques to gain an illegal advantage.

there is also a difference between a career cheater and being caught one time, the cases of proven career cheats are fairly unusual in all the sports world(top of my head, cyclists, baseball players and weightlifters).

I would like to think i am a good judge simply from watching careers and understanding a sport, when any sportsman's body appearance or ability level change suspiciously quickly, or just that they are a mile ahead of any competition.
this is harder in boxing than most any other sport, especially team sports.(see last weekends cycling, 2 nobodies from the same team(team with questionable record on drugs) won 2 of the biggest races back to back,( suspicious results even if not on same team, basically evidence since they are) i think because of weight classes and the fact not every punch has the same effect.

However the most important factor is the testing procedure of the governing body. They will only find what they test for, so if someone tests positive you don't know that there wasn't a competitor taking something not tested for.

i still respect their ability but not their achievements for the time the cheating was proven, and have a colored opinion of who i am suspicious of. I am not going to write it but my list of currently active, assumed (drug)cheats does not have many boxers on it.

and specific to boxing at least the drug method of cheating does not rub fans faces in it like fixed referees and judges, or marketed bull**** like haye v harrison that makes the sport look bad to non fans.

the fighters listed in the first post come from the steroid era of sports, and it is safe to assume the oposition was juiced too, not to excuse them.

to many sports fans it just doesn't matter. My parents refuse to believe that there is even a chance lance armstrong(impossible feat of 7years finding peak form at right time) was dirty and this is the same with many fight fans i talk too, usually about rjj.

Also all N. American hall of fames need to ban those caught using to set a precident, but even the olympics is not keen on lifetime bans, imo the only way to get any form of cheating it out of sports.

 

I think many, meaning the majority, of fighters are on something. The guys who get caught are simply sloppy with their timing or ignorant. There are clean fighters, but I think there's plenty that are on...

I don't think it affects their legacy at all.

 

when you say 'on something' do you know what something is? otherwise a dumb statement.
you only have to have a conversation about holyfield, rjj, dwain chambers, maradona or barry bonds to see how much of an effect it has on legacy.
