In your view, how does a positive steroid test affect a fighters legacy?

'With so many boxers lifting weights these days, being around typical gym people, having personalised conditioning coaches and whatnot, I am of no doubt that they will encounter the type of guys that will sooner or later try and introduce the fighters to this particular sub culture.
I would say that it is pretty much inevitable at some point. '

very good point, i hadn't seen it from that angle

I dont give a fighter who uses PEDs ANY credit. It casts doubt upon their entire legacy. Mosley and Holyfield were two of my favorite fighters. Now I have no time for either of them. Holyfield was dirty enough as it was with his headbutts, elbows, low blows, etc. But then throw steroids into the mix and I just seriously doubt he'd have ever been competitive at HW without them. Watching Mosley squirm in his deposition while admitting to knowingly taking PEDs with that stupid smirk on his face like a 10 year old caught with hand in the cookie jar was just sickening. All these guys who seemed too good to be true and then popped hot shouldnt be allowed anywhere near the HOF or any other high honor of the sport.

Screw 'em all. I don't by any of the phony excuses or rationalizations for allowing steroids and other drugs. The sport needs a level playing field or the basis for calling boxing a "sport" disappears. If there were commissions and licensing bodies that tested and enforced rules against drug users and cancelled their fights, it would clean up boxing and give it more credibility. Let the promoters drop a few million bucks for matching drug users, and they (the promoters) would wise up, "get religion" and enforce the rules themselves. The fights would be less brutal and more competitive as well.

There is no reason to believe you know most, or what percentage, of guys use.
And if you make extreme & negative statements like that-based on pure supposition-like "...and to me it's the height of naivety or willful ignorance to believe otherwise"...Of course people may be testy in response.

And it is not logical to rationalize that "the cream will rise to the top anyway".
If guys who are as or more talented do NOT cheat, or cheat much less, or have less effective reactions/receptors for PEDs...They may not rise to the top.

It did tarnish Toney in that he could not win the title he should have won. Canelo? I don't think it will hurt him much. I think people get desensitized to anything.

Puts a big question mark over the entire career unless clearly proven otherwise.

Its hard to say what Holyfield or Balco Mosley career’s would have played out off PED’s

I’d like to see the boxing hall of fame put an asterisk next to anyone who tested positive in a professional fight with the date listed as they got to where they were dishonorably.

I’d also like to see the hall of fame raise the requirement standard on the vote requirement for those who tested positive as pro. At the very least this would DQ some of the cheaters.

5 times the natural testosterone limit. If you wondering what happens to the human body with levels that high to quote a doctor who worked with people abusing steroids your testicles become the size of Jelly beans.

Now that’s something pretty awesome to brag about.

I still give Francois Botha full credit as both World Heavyweight Champion and more importantly as Transvaal Heavyweight Champion.

It doesn’t. Steroids and other drugs have been apart of boxing for a very long time. Regardless of how many drugs a fighter takes drugs can’t give you boxing talent that you don’t have.
