Both fighters were not at their peak but they are not totally shot.. Leonard had all the disadvantage and nobody thought Leonard would survived against Hagler. It was only after a decade that people started calling Hagler shot.

Neither fighter was at their prime in this match up, Leonard had been retired for years, therefore people should respect both fighters and what they brought to the table which is the skills of two ATG's who dominated their times.

and by discrediting leonard they're also discrediting a great fighter in Hagler who went out in a terrific closely contested battle. :-(

The decision was a joke. SRL only landed like 15 or so more blows all fight total....and as someone said previously he pitter patted all night. And there is no question Hagler was a different fighter after Mugabi and Hearns. Not to mention all the concessions made to SRL, such as 24ft. ring......and the fact he'd been sparring for a couple years waiting to fight Hagler when it was advantageous.

Hagler definitely looked slow. I thought he took the fight though. He gave away a few rounds in the beginning, but he also won his rounds convincingly in my eyes.

The rounds that are hard to score are the rounds where Hagler was punishing Leonard, but Leonard had a couple good flurries off the ropes.

I give those rounds to Hagler because I believe he was doing the more serious damage, though the flurries were impressive.

Round 9 is a good example, also a hell of a round by both guys.

Also, don't you guys think the 110-118 scoring was a joke?

I have watched the "whole" fight. I've watched it dozens of times, in slo-mo, stop-frame, every mode you can imagine. Leonard (spelled properly) galloped around the ring avoiding contact except for one or two flurries per round. The fight was easy to score- Leonard won rounds 1 & 2, Hagler #3, Leonard #4 (his most dominant round), Hagler # 5 (badly shaking Ray w/an uppercut), Ray #6 (his next best round), Hagler rounds 7,8,9; round 10 even (could have gone either way); round 11 Hagler (close round, could have been even but Ray didn't win it); round 12 Hagler (one of his best). At the end of round 12 Hagler blasted Leonard with two huge rights while he had him cornered. Ray couldn't even walk back to his corner. Sure, Hagler's skill had diminished some and Ray fought a great fight considering the circumstances, but surviving Hagler is not the same as beating Hagler. JoJo Guerra was a replacement judge who had questionable social contacts before the fight with Leonard and his team; Moretti has always been a crook and has been on the bad side of more decisions than I can count (see Dwight Muhammed Qawi vs Ossie "Jaws" Ocasio if you don't believe me and listen to the scoring by the Commentator and his opinion of that fight-he never gave a round to Ocasio and that man was Ferdie Pacheco). Lou Filippo was the only one who had the fight scored correctly, 115-113 Hagler. Hagler hurt Leonard on two occasions that I recall and was the fighter making the fight. There wouldn't have been a fight if Hagler had not made it-only a track meet. Anyone who scored that fight 118-110 Leonard was corrupt and you know it, especially when that judge later admitted to mis-scoring "a few rounds" (his own words). Also, Leonards' wife at the time was later interviewed and she flat out said Ray "lost the fight and knew it." (her own words). As time goes by and I occasionally show the fight to those who were not rabid fans, about 80% of those watching it picked Hagler as the winner. My score was 116-113 Hagler, 7-4-1 in rounds. So, Manos De Tiedra, a few seconds of video taken out of context does not provide "indisputable proof" of anything other than that you're a Leonard fan. Well, that's nice, but is beside the point. Oh, by the way, PunchStats for that fight showed both fighters landing almost exactly the same number of punches, and by all accounts anyone in his right mind has to admit Haglers punches were harder, therefore more effective. I'd have put my money anytime back then on Leonard winning a circular footrace; he was definitely the better runner IMO.:blackeye
