Hello, This is a big problem for me. After hitting the heavy bag I have got really pain in the tendon that crosses the fist. Its now painful just to have the boxing gloves on or touhing my fist. What can It be? Is it normal to get inflammation after hitting a soft heavy bag with gloves? I got this **** on my right hand and It took me one month to recover! If this is the case after going one the heavy bag I might reconsider If my body is made for boxing . Is It possible I hit the heavy bag too hard? How should I treat this injury? Does anyone have advice how to avoid this? Thank you
I think an inflammation wouldn't just bother you after hitting the bag, it's more likely one of the mid hand bones. How long have you been boxing? It takes some time for the hands to get used to all the abuse. Are you sure your punching technique is right? Pushing the bag instead of punching it is a recipe for disaster in the form of hand injuries. Do you wrap your hands correctly, not just focusing on the wrist but also the hand? If it really is an inflammation, it would require rest and proper nutrition.
I would guess just technique and pushing the bag is the problem. I never had hand problems when I started...
It might be that I am pushing the bag abit too much. I have boxed for 3 months and I am joining a boxing club. And I have properly learned the jab and straight right. This pain has been on the same fist both times. Just different hands(right/left) The fist on the pointing finger. Yea I wraps them correctly I have used instruction videos on youtube. Can It be that my hands biomechanically Is not suited for punching? By the way. When I was hitting the bag I suddenly felt a sharp pain on the fist. Seemed like It just could handle it more and then "gave up". For me It seems like this is the tendon. Because when moving my finger while feeling on the tendon It feels like crammy snow. If you know what I mean. The tendon like makes a sound and It feels strange when touching it while I move my finger. Ok dont mean to bother you that much, but I just cant understand why this **** just happens to me what kind of food helps for inflammation? Can you please describe abit more mid bone? My english understanding is not that good.
Oh, 3 months. In that case let it rest, and focus on getting the technique down and punching properly instead of punching hard. What you describe still sounds like a mid hand bone injury instead of an inflammation. The mid hand bones are the bones in the middle of the hand. The ones in pink on this image: This content is protected The knuckle on the index finger is not the one that should be connecting btw, that may have something to do with it. A punch should land on the outer three knuckles (pinky, ring and middle), so just aim for the ring knuckle.
The pain is on the upper part of the yellow bone/tendon. close to the pink bone. My coach says that the punch should hit the pointing finger(index finger) and the "Fxxx you finger" (sorry dont know the english word) Why do you think is the bone? Its the tendon that hurts.
A sudden, sharp pain is not how I would describe an inflammation. Inflammation pain is whiny and tiresome. You also said it ran across the hand, that's why I thought of a metacarpal bone, it's a common boxing injury. It could be a slightly torn tendon in the finger, I just doubt it's an inflammation. But then again, I'm not an expert. Not giving advice here, just my 2 cents.
sorry I think the word crossed was wrong. I meant the tendon thats going in line with the finger. The pain Is just slightly below the knockle(fist) Last time I got this **** the pain was not sudden when I got It, but came after the workout was finished. I also had pain when I was not boxing, like when tying my shoes, moving my finger. Felt like inflammation pain. Well I dont thing there are more things to say. Just cant understand why it just happens to me. I dont feel that I am hitting wrong or punching harder than the other guys in the gym. And I definately wants to avoid this in the future if its possible. I guess I have to adjust the distance to the bag so that I am just barely touching it when I throw a punch. And focusing on tecnicue and fast movements. Thanks for the info anyway.
I have been boxing for maybe three years now. I have pain on the middle finger, upper pink area by the knuckle. Sucks to feel like an old person.
I feel worse than an old man, I cant even put on my gloves without feelinf pain. Punching at something will hurt ass hell But I guess after 3-4 weeks my knuckle will be fine again, like my knuckle on my right hand.
