    Hey guys,

I've to write an essay on the ''influence of technology on modern boxing'' as a paper for college.

Can anyone who has a lot of knowledge in boxing training give me some stuff to work with ? I boxe as an amateur, but this goes as far, I've only had 7 fights ... so I don't know all the ''big'' training methods etc

    Thanks !

Perhaps you should have chosen a different subject matter.

    Why ?

I like boxing, and it had to be on ''technologies''.

Though I'd post here since I check the forum / news often.

I can't think of much technology relating to any sport. Techniques, practices, and methods are used more than technology. All I can think of the heart and blood pressure monitor so that you can regulate those things at a certain level for optimal work outs.

Well, I don't know what angle you're looking for, but I guess online video has a big effect on training and dissecting possible opponents styles/strenghts/weaknesses. maybe you could elaborate on that.

Yeah, super slo mo can really help a fighter create a plan, and I read an article about go-pro cameras coming to boxing, so there's the "future of technology in boxing" section. When it's talking boxing, that's enough info for me to bs my way through a paper right there, lol.

Looking for anything, so far what I have is:

    Hyperbaric chamber
Gloves ( old gloves --> newer gloves )
    Compubox
Training machines ( which I don't have much knowledge off, since we train ''old school'' at my gym :s )
'' Automated scoring for boxing technology '' (automated impact sensing system )
    Social networks influence on boxers

Compubox is just 2 guys counting punches.
One counts all the thrown punches of fighter (a), and another counts all the landed jabs of fighter (b) and so forth.

They are using technology to input what they feel are landed punches.
They are operators, and as such human error in judgement plays a roll as it does with a regular judge.

nah it's a program formerly named ''fightstat'' developped by Jon Gibbs in 1984–85. But yeah, there are operators that ''count'' puinches.

Yeah that's what I meant. they are using a computer of sorts, but it's not automated. It's all what they guy doing the counting feels landed.
So yeah the software is technology.

Doesn't need to be automated really, that's more than enought, and back than it was a huge step up in technology

Mackie Shilstone brought alot of new training techniques to boxing as he was working to move Spinks up to HW in the '80s. IIRC, he used (and still does) alot of technology to help.

    You should look him up.

Tech has made modern boxers weaker.
Soon they will reduce to 8 rd fights, 2minutes/rd and pillow gloves because these guys are so much weaker than before.
