Pacquiao tickets sold out in hours. Big spenders come to Vegas when he fights. Alvarez is popular in mexico but not so much in the US. Even when JMM fought Floyd it was one of his (PBF) worst PPV events numbers wise.

The undercard will help tremendously but getting over the 1 million mark especially with the turmoil at HBO Sports right now will be very tricky.

Pacquiao was and still is peaking right before the Mosley bout. Everybody from celebrities to average joes hopped on the Pacman train.

Floyd peaked and has dipped and has not done a single thing to get people on board. 2 years ago if you asked anybody about Floyd vs Pac it would be hard to find a person that would say Pac would win. Today it is hard to find a person that would say Floyd isn't scared.

Things have changed and the only ones who don't see it are Floyd and his ESB fan base.

I hope so. I am all for big numbers for the good of Boxing. I would love nothing more than a big PPV turn out and Floyd to have his best performance. This will help boxing tremendously. I just don't see either happening. I would love to be wrong on both and usually am lol. :good

Perhaps. But trust me Oden I know my ****. And i think it is easy to tell when I am serious and when I am not. I do believe Ortiz is gonna stop Floyd. On a side not this forum can be hostile I think it is good to have some humor here and there to lighten things up. Boxing should bring joy to fans not hostility.

 

Your opinion of who is going to win the fight is no problem! If you think Ortiz is going to stop Floyd, that only speaks to the quality of the matchup. But remarks about zero interest from mainstream public is off base. First of all, we are in mid summer for a fight 2 months away. How was the Pac-Mosley hype in early March? Non existent would be the answer.

As you know, GBP puts a lot more $ in marketing than Top Rank does. Mayweather, himself, is the greatest promotion vehicle in the sport. So even if this was a poor matchup, at this point, it would still garner mainstream interest and that'll bear out as we get closer to the fight.

most big Vegas fights sell out quickly ... it's not a shocker Pac's fight vs Mosley sold quickly

what I meant by selling well was how a mismatch fight got so many PPV buys. That I still don't understand. Mosley was coming off a loss to Mayweather & a draw vs Sergio Mora

yet he got a Million buys vs Pacquiao but it's a bull**** fight if I ever saw one. I don't care if Manny is the biggest name in boxing

I agree on Floyd, the inactivity and dumb things he's said certainly hurt his stock. Throw in the whole blood testing drama and that's a whole bunch of negativity coming his way. And on top of that, he isn't exactly a fan favorite

So if Alvarez wasn't popular in the U.S. like you say, how could he get those numbers on an American network? I'll agree that Alvarez isn't there yet in regards to being a household name .. but those views vs Matt Hatton is pretty solid.

I don't see why you're so quick to write off Floyd's selling ability vs Ortiz when the Pac/Mosley PPV showed us that people are stupid enough to buy a mismatch big fight

I'm pretty sure the ticket brokers are getting nervous about this fight. I just checked ticketmaster and they made face value tickets are available ringside $1200 and $600. What this means is the cheaper seats sold at higher prices by the brokers tickets are going to go down and be released back to ticketmaster if they haven't bought them. With Alvarez vs Gomez at $50 and you get to see the Ortiz fight don't expect this one to sell out. If you want to see the fight just go to the live gate at fight time you might even get comp tickets as they will want a full arena for HBO.
