Williams ko's him, then ko's Floyd, and Liston gets the title a lot earlier.

Maybe ,but Ingo didn't meet many punchers and when he did he usually hit the floor. Neither guy had a great chin but Williams has the speed and reach to get there first, imo.

This is the exact scenario I pictured when reading the op. Ingo walks in to a blast of ko punches, Floyd gets stopped next. Then sonny grabs the title.

Williams never beat anyone close to the calibre of Floyd Patterson. He might beat Johansson, who equally might also beat him, since Williams himself was pretty beatable all through his career and never did anything comparable to Ingo's wins over Patterson and Machen. Whoever wins, Patterson KOs the winner then keeps the title until he loses to Liston.

I dunno. Cooper and TenHoff could punch and Ingo was a cagey boxer. I don't rate Williams as highly as you, he would be dangerous against anyone in a shoot-out but Ingo didn't do shoot-outs.

This. Williams was tailormade for Ingo.

I agree Williams beats both but I don't know about that last part. The powers that be didn't want Liston anywhere near that title.

Williams prime was cut short by the shooting. He would have been a very live underdog against Patterson who was floored by the likes of Rademacher and Harris ,but D'Amato would never have countenanced a defence against him.

Ten Hoff was never more than Euro level really and Cooper never ko'd a top class heavy.

Ingo stops Williams in short but exciting fight and the rest stays the same.

Williams was 31 and had had 69 fights when he got shot. By that point he was probably as good as he was ever going to be. I agree he's a live underdog. I still favour Floyd though.
