Similar sizes and comparable power in their right hands, although Ingo hit a bit harder. Ingo flattened Floyd Patterson and Eddie Machen and Max Schmeling knocked out Joe Louis. Both men were royally wrecked in the rematches with their champions. Who would you pick to beat whom?
Patterson was vulnerable to big hitters and Machen was good, but not top level. KOing Louis on the other hand was a major scalp for Schmeling, so based on that - and the fact I think Schemling was a little more skilled overall - I'm going with Max win = KO4
60/40 for Schmeling to wear him down and get him late, either stealing the fight late on and winning a section, or stopping him, he had solid stamina and Johnasson’s feet would slow down meaning that, when Schmeling counters the jab of Johansson, they’re gonna land more and more often as Johansson is able to step back less and less after the jab.
I go with the crowd here: my man Max is the superior boxer in this match. I am confident the man who frustrated Joe Louis could also outbox Ingo. Max UD, but I don't discard a late stoppage.
Max will not make the mistakes Patterson made in Fight 1 and makes Ingo look ridiculous, wins a lopsided decision or Ingo just gives out in the late rounds.
It's not a hill I'm prepared to die on but his KO'ing of Louis makes me think it's not that improbable. I'm happy to be convinced otherwise though - maybe I don't rate the Swede highly enough.
