Let's assume that the KO didn't affect him. Would it make a difference? Williams still didn't beat Machen. He didn't deliver. Can't blame Johansson for Williams inability. That was before Williams was shot.
Shall we ignore Williams career after he was shot because because apparently it is a period worthy of excuses? If so, what was his career highlight?

Williams probably overachieved drawing against a fighter as good as Machen. It’s the best thing on his record by a long chalk.

but it’s only Machen. Let’s not pretend Machen, as good as he was, is a “would be” world champion. Williams certainly isn’t. Especially with a lack of signature wins by kayo at elite level.

There’s no hiding the fact Ingo had dismissed Machen years earlier when Eddie really was a red hot undefeated number one contender.

For some reason, there are folks who find it rather galling and too hard to swallow that Williams did not have this kind of win himself. Unfortunately for them Ingo did score such a result. It was very emphatic. This actually happened.

Given the chance to replicate this result (without carrying a magnum bullet and resulting issue with bow legs) Williams fell far short. And there is nothing wrong with that because Williams was not quite championship material.

    whereas Ingo is.
