I don't know when Williams was shot, but if he wasn't at this point I'd favour him If not I'd favour Ingo
I assume you meant Ingo? And I see it quite similar. A close fight and ingo stops him late. My spell check changed his name to info I guess yours did into lol
Cleveland would try and get Ingo out fast I reckon ,he'd hammer away at him ,not giving the Swede much chance at getting any good shots in . But after 4 or 5 rounds ,the tide turns and Ingemar begin s to impose him self and hitting William s with hard ,hurtful shots .By rd 7 I can see em both gasping but its Ingo that produce s the KO shot ,with his Hammer of Thor coming from no where . Johansson Wko 7 William s
1962-06-17 : Ingemar Johansson 201 lbs beat Dick Richardson 202¾ lbs by KO at 2:13 in round 8 of 15 Location: Nya Ullevi, Gothenburg, Sweden Referee: Pierre Verrieres Bout Summary This content is protected "Ingemar Johansson of Sweden crashed two terrific rights onto the jaw of Welshman Dick Richardson and won the EBU heavyweight championship in the 8th round before 55,000 hysterical fans here Sunday night. With blood streaming from a cut in the corner of his left eye, Johansson sent Richardson slumping helplessly to the canvas for a count of eight. The big Welshman rose groggily to his feet and Johansson stormed in with another pulverizing right which dropped Richardson like a stone. The Welshman rolled over onto his back, out cold. The time was 2:16 of the 8th round in the scheduled 15 rounder." -Associated Press 1962-04-03 : Cleveland Williams 215 lbs beat Ernie Terrell 197½ lbs by TKO at 1:43 in round 7 of 10 Location: Sam Houston Coliseum, Houston, Texas, USA Referee: Sonny Liston "Cleveland (Big Cat) Williams, 212, the 6th ranked heavyweight contender, scored a 7th round TKO Tuesday night over young Ernest Terrell, 202, of Chicago in a scheduled 10 round fight. After a slow start, Williams caught Terrell with a left cross in the 3rd round and had the fight his own way from then on. The Chicago fighter had opened a cut under Williams' left eye within the first minute of the 1st round. In the 6th, Williams hit him with a right hook followed by a left cross and Terrell hit the canvas but bounced back up after an eight count. Referee Sonny Liston stopped the bout at 1:47 of the 7th round after Williams had battered Terrell with a series of rights and lefts." -United Press International 1962-07-10 : Cleveland Williams 211½ lbs drew with Eddie Machen 198 lbs by PTS in round 10 of 10 Location: Sam Houston Coliseum, Houston, Texas, USA Referee: Jimmy Webb 96-96 Judge: Ernie Taylor 96-96 Judge: Earl Keel 97-94 This content is protected "Eddie Machen, 198, and Cleveland Williams, 211 1/2, ruined their immediate chances for a heavyweight title shot last night with a cautiously fought 10 round draw. Both Machen, the No. 2 heavyweight contender, and Williams, ranked No. 5, climbed into the ring hoping to come out with a clearcut right to challenge the Sonny Liston-Floyd Patterson winner for the title. Machen came out unscarred, Williams had a cut on the mouth and a mouse over his right eye. Williams, a powerful left hooker, shook Machen in the 3rd and 8th rounds. Machen scored heavily with his effective counter-punching." -The Fresno Bee Both fighters received $22,000 apiece from the gate Post fight comment "In a way he's tougher to fight than Liston because he has the speed the other doesn't have. You can't walk around Cleveland like you can Liston." -Eddie Machen
Taking them both at their best, I'd have Johansson a clear favourite to KO Williams But in 1962 its more of a 50-50 since there's real questions marks about Johansson's condition and motivation by that point.
It's a short fight one way or the other .. both capable of taking the other out ... Williams pretty explosive out of gate .. neither w a terrific chin .. I don't see it going past three , possibly shorter either way ..
In '62 I think Big Cat kayoes the post Patterson Ingo. Being bigger & likely quicker with a longer reach, I think Williams gets in first and likely scores a spectacular kayo.
Yeah, Liston as referee. Those were the good old days. It would be like Anthony Joshua refereeing the Whyte-Rivas fight, for a forthcoming example.
