I think this is more a 'what odds' than 'who'd win.' 'Jersey Joe Walcott, on a given night, was a guy who could ect.' could be favored; then again, even on what are reckoned his good nights, he sometimes got stopped. 'The Enigmatic Jersey Joe Walcott' probably looses (taking some abuse at some point, which may or may not be the terminal moment); but even when mystifyingly flat -- and knocked down, on top of it -- J. Joe'd sometimes still be there (and quite vivaciously contra Charles II) at the end.

Walcott with proper preparation takes this. I'd put a lot of money on that comfortably. The man was good, and he sure as hell ain't letting Ingo sit on his punches or align. He would play a perplexing game of broken rhythm and sneaky counters.

This is exactly how I feel. Walcott proved elusive to Louis and Charles- this whole thread saying Ingo is going to find his range and catch Walcott with a bomb is absurd. Sure anything can happen. But seriously!? Walcott wouldn't allow Ingo to touch him and certainly had the skills to counter anything Ingo threw.

I can see valid reasons for favoring both over the other. Walcott was certainly the more battle tested fighter and with about three times the resume. But Johannson’s brutal knockouts of Machen and Patterson give him a very serious chance

No one who Buddy McGirt and Bill Miller steals from loses to a one punch wonder unless he makes a grave mistake.

I would personally take Walcott here, much better boxer and much, much harder to hit cleanly than Patterson.

Johansson beat every fighter he fought and would JJW be the exception? Floyd was better than JJW and Floyd and Ingo was a very close match up.
JJW on the other hand lost to many different fighters of significantly less ability than Johansson. Not sure why anyone would be sure that JJW wins this fight.

It's an interesting fantasy fight where everything is possible. I wouldn't bet on it.
Both were dangerous punchers. Johansson had a more powerful right hand and Walcott a better left hook. Overall, Johansson was probably the more dangerous puncher.
Ingo was a good mover but Walcott had more versatile footwork, better upper body movement, was more slippery, had better infight skills, was more experienced and proven. I guess Walcott had more heart, stamina and probably a better chin...
Well, all in all, these are enough advantages to favor him.
On the flipside, Walcott was also inconsistent. His guard was pretty low and his chin wasn't granite as well.
I think on a good day he wins but Johansson would be very dangerous.
