The 'Hammer of Thor' would find its mark eventually and this would spell disaster for 'The Ole Mongoose.'

The Swede by kayo in five.

Despite Moore being the better fighter all around, Johannson would catch him with a guided missle of a right hand at one point or another, and if it were the Ingo of the Machen bout, he would brutally finish Archie off, that is if Moore was able to get up from that first bomb. Ingo had his many flaws as a fighter, but he could one thing very, very well, and that heavyweight grade right hand would be too much for ANY lightheavyweight to handle, even Archie Moore.

I am a little surprised by the fact that Johansen is coming out as a clear favourite here. I expected most to pick Moore.

It's good to see Johansson getting some respect on this thread. He's often overlooked.

I wonder if the timeline specified is a factor for that. I myself would unhesitatingly pick Moore over Johansson prime against prime. But, as this is, I would have to give it to the Swede.

Exactly, except that I would only slightly lean towards Moore with both at their best. Moore was a more versatile and experienced fighter with a more fluid style, and he would have enough power to take Johansson out if he sat down on his punches. Both in their primes, I would make Moore a slight favorite to evade Johansson's right, exploit his technical flaws and knock him out in the later rounds. In '59, though, I think Moore had slowed down enough that he probably wouldn't be able to pull it off, and Johansson would eventually connect with the money shot.

Eh, I feel Moore's crafty enough to hang in there and KO him.

Have to consider that Moore himself hit hard enough to knock out fighters who went the distance with Sonny Liston... Twice.

Ingo doesn't have the heart or ability to recover like Archie. If it turns into a war, Ingo's not going to come out the winner.
