I'm not sure what Quarry did to make him a favoured by anyone against Ingemar Johansson. Quarry took too many punches. He'd be dead meat against Ingo. I think perhaps Ingo gets underrated because he had no longevity. He gave up training almost completely and paid the price. The guys who destroyed Machen and Patterson would surely have battered Jerry Quarry into oblivion.
No, I don't agree with that, I think a Jerry/Ingo fight would have been a great one. I'm just against many who say Quarry walks thru him which, IMO, is BS. If Jerry doesn't get clocked by a Sunday Ingo-Bingo he's hanging around. I've said this before but, sorry guys, Quarry wasn't a numbing knockout puncher. He wore you down. If he establishes his in-out great counter-punching attributes, Ingo would find himself in trouble. But (who said Ingo had a half-ass jab?) If you don't have a left-hook (which Ingo didn't) how can you rise to the title without a second (jab) punch? Put me in the minority here in thinking this could possibly be a great fight!
Ingo was the opposite of Louis great in first fight worst in second fight. Had element of surprise. If Quarry not ready could get knocked out. Provably not though. Quarry survives any knock downs and otherwise is a little better overall then Ingo. I put my money on the best Quarry vs Best Ingo 6 out of 10 he wins. Maybe 7.
