It was known that Cus was not pushing Patterson in with Rocky and Rocky needed a attraction to draw a crowd.

I like Floyd I knew him well and he was an underrated fighter but did get dropped or KO'd by every puncher he fought and dropped in almost every fight. I personally do not think any version of Floyd would beat Marciano...

even a Marciano bruised Moore was a good match-up for Floyd but Moore was no Marciano, Archie could punch but not near the tipping point of Marciano and he was not a relentless puncher that applied pressure, Archie was a mongoose who got bit by the cobra in Patterson, Marciano dominated Moore and his pressure and power would be too much for any version of Floyd IMO

What’s the story behind Rocky not liking Ingemar? Was something said between the two of them that caused bad blood? I hadn’t heard of this until seeing this post.

It never ends well for fighters coming back from long layoffs unless they have several tune up fights. If Rocky went straight to Ingo it wouldn’t go well for him.
I think Rocky retired at the right time. Maybe he should have fought Baker n Nino or one or the other and called it a night but he was nearing the end and both those men were NOT considered big draw or threats to his crown.
Prime for prime Rocky all day in 59 Ingo beats him badly

Marciano had his last fight in September 1955,he tried to get in shape to challenge Ingo but was unable /unwilling to make the sacrifices do so.
Both at their best Rocky would have slaughtered the Swede imo.

People who think Rocky would have no trouble with Ingemar (or Patterson for that matter) in 1959 are making the mistake that fans of all sports often make by freezing their heroes in time when they were truly great, and automatically assuming they will come back as they were.

Rocky was a flesh and blood human being, as much as some folks might like to think otherwise, and subject to the vagaries of time and inactivity just like other flesh and blood human beings.

It’s of course grist for discussion/speculation, but we’ll never know because Rocky wisely decided that at 36 years old he didn’t want to go through the hell of training and get hit in the head and get his face busted up again.
