Ingemar Johansson was a great HW puncher with two great hands (brutal KO)

And here he scores one of the most brutal KO's in HW history:

    :scaredas:

Machen was stopped three times - in his last fight, where he was pretty much shot on a TKO, by a pre-peaked Joe Frazier on a brutal TKO (just posted that video in another thread) but he was never flat out KO'd - and he never should have been here, to be fair, the ref counting over Eddie's prone form whilst he is attended to by his seconds is obscene and the fight probably should have been stopped after the second KD, but still.

    Wow. Ferocious punching.

    Thoughts?

Hey, McGrain, be nice to poor Eddie and post something where he doesn't get KOTF. ;)

By the way Ingo agrees with you that the fight should have been stopped. It's him you hear speaking.

Oh, you speak Swedish Bokaj? What else does he have to say?

Machen is a cracking fighter - I was actually just thinking about how he would do against Haye - but, alas, he's also one of those guys who is defined by his losses rather than his wins.

    Also, why no avatar?

Johansson's power was well known and his boxing underestimated. I am surprised that the ref wasn't more watchful of Eddie Machen after the second knockdown. When Ingemar had him trapped against the ropes in the corner it was shades of Cooney-Norton!

The first knockdown was awesome. The finish was absolutely brutal, he could've been killed. Reminds me of Cooney-Norton like Spion said.

Glad you said that. I think that's one of the best, most hurtful punches i've ever seen. First time I saw this fight my jaw dropped when Machen got up, I thought that the KO1 had already happened.

    How you keeping Teeto?

Not bad, yourself? Good to see these good threads by you as soon as i'm back trying to give ESB some more of my time. I was thinking i'd get ignored for a bit by everyone because i haven't been consistent on here recently!!
Haven't stopped keeping in touch with boxing though, that will never happen.

I've actually not seen this ko before you just posted it, i knew about it, he got a title shot from this one didn't he? But i never knew it was as brutal a stoppage as that, harsh

    Yeah, I am Swedish.

He says he has great respect for Machen, and therefore starts out cautiosly. He says Machen is a winner in every inch, and that he saw it as a gamble taking him on, but that the money was too good to say no to. He also says that he hadn't dare hope for the outcome, but that he was in great shape.

Even after the first KD, he keeps to the original cautious gameplan, he says, because of his respect for Machen. But after the second KD...

He obviously thought the ref should have stopped it, but saw it as too big a chance for him to stop punching without intervention from the ref. Ingo ends by saying that Machen wasn't the same for two years after this KO

Because I'm a lazy bum, I suppose. Haven't got around to it.

It's great. But I can't really take another man's picture (haven't you used that one?). I'll try to get round to it, one of these days.

would putting ingo in the top 15 heavyweight punchers be justifiable?
or is he no where near there?

I think I might have, yeah.

I think he's somwhere between 15 and 20, I think you could make a case for the lower end of the 15.
