    1) Earnie was really noted 4 his punch , he landed first and what happened ?
    2) And Earnie's chin was better than Johanson's 4 sure .
Earnie was stopped on his feet vs Quarry & Holmes , Holmes needed a thumb in order 2 get his (unrecognized by myself) stoppage .
Shavers' chin is underrated (and better than Johnason's) , his punch is overrated but better than Johanson's .

I give Lyle better chances than u but Lyle might suck .

agreed , but he still was a superior heavy 2 Johanson .

    edit : now i c , u meant who hit harder than shavers ?
McCall , Tua & Bert Cooper all have case 2 being harder punchers .
Shavers only stopped Young , Ellis & Norton on par with Hasim Rahman , Oleg Maskaev
He failed stopping Larry Holmes whose chin was proven 2 b breakable .
He even failed knocking down Muhammad Ali , a feat that Henry Cooper & Joe Frazier achieved .
Shavers in not d hardest puncher of all time , maybe d hardest puncher of his era , but not all eras' .

The 1959 prime Ingo was very very sharp. I don’t think Lyle was ever as good as #1 ranked Eddie machen and ingo wiped machen out. machen KOd a lot of good fighters and had paid his dues as a genuine title threat. I just don’t think Lyle was seen as a real title threat. in his prime Ron Lyle drew with gregario peralta and could not knock out a 1974 version of jimmy Ellis -had a split decisions with 8-10 wendle Newton and Joe bugner..would wendle newton or joe bugner beat ingo? what was lyles best win? beating shavers a year after bob stallings? shavers was knocked out 7 times it was not that great a fete.

Lyle was big, brave and hard hitting but prime ingo is another level. Fair enough ingo was ruined by Patterson in their rematch but one must consider that in the year ingo peaked as a fighter the best two heavyweights in the world were floyd and machen, neither had ever been KOd before and ingo knocked them both out. Its some fete. Perhaps on par with what Foreman achieved when he took out Frazier and Norton, although Norton HAD been KOd before or what max baer did with schmeling and carnera when they were both considered the best in the world..

If we are talking prime for prime we pick the ingo who has his best two wins over the best two fighters in the world at that time against the guy who still lost to jerry quarry...who in his own prime was not that convincing against old patterson.

I think the slow Lyle would make a good target.

Enough of your Ingo ballwashing and Big Cat hating

  7. the 1976 version of lyle who faced george foreman would absolutely destroy the little cruiser ingo, not even close. ron lyle was by far better than eddie machen, that version of lyle would ko floyd patterson (who did beat ingo) and he would give the hell to sonny liston. and of course ron lyle would ko ken norton, it is because we never saw lyle-norton

combates! when did you come back man??

anyway, my first instinct is lyle but who did lyle beat? every elite fighter he faced, he either clearly lost to or got knocked out by. the only exception is the afformentioned shavers fight, and shavers didn't have elite skills. lyle gets a lot points on here for brave efforts in losing but not enough points for me to give him an easy win over a guy who managed to take out machen and a prime patterson.

this is a tough pick at worst and i may lean towards ingo

I imagine jerry quarry who fought both floyd patterson and ron lyle would say patterson was better than lyle.

patterson was better in 1959 than he was in 1967 quarry fought him.

  12. yes, patterson was better fighter than lyle, like sugar ray robinson was too, but lyle would destroy robinson.... it is not only about skill. joe walcott was much better fighter(skilled) than marciano, but rocky destroyed him...

Shavers era included Basically Liston through Foreman ...

Ali said not one ever hit him harder than Shavers.
Lyle Said no one ever hit him harder than Shavers.
Holmes said no one ever hit him harder than Shavers.
Norton said no one ever hit him harder than Shavers.
Tex Cobb said no one ever hit him harder than Shavers .

It's not a matter of who you stop. Ali stopped Bonavena. Did he hit harder than Frazier ?

For the record I respect ypur awareness of Cooper's power ... there are a few here you are clueless about what a huge hitter Cooper was ...

    this is true.

However, marciano destroyed walcott not because he was bigger than walcott. he was actualy lighter. marciano (unlike ron lyle) had already showed he could knock out more than one world rated fighter by the time he met walcott. he had already knocked out layne, mathews, old man joe louis, savold and out pointed unbeaten roland lastarza.

simularly ingo had knocked out world rated cooper, cavicchi, erskine and world #1 machen before he met the champion as well as some big giants like ten hoff and 200lb plus heinz neuhaus who beat rex layne and joey maxim.

I asume you think that because lyle was bigger than marciano and ingo and was a good class contender you think he beats smaller marciano and ingo. But how come ron drew with the smaller unrated peralta? peralta was not big yet little willie pastrano knocked him out and big lyle could not.

Against world rated fighters Lyles record is not so good. yes he was bigger but he lost to smaller guys too.

  15. yes, but is about size and styles, johanson was more static than quarry or peralta for example. peralta was a ****ing hard rival for foreman. but johanson was not this type of fighter that mobile, johanson was a small puncher, but he did not have the chin of rocky. ingo would be a good victim for a man like ron lyle, i would not pick lyle against mobile fighters(with good chin) who could outbox him. anyway it is just my opinion
