Ingo, and his bingo, trade off against Earnie Shavers. I dont see a points decision here ,so who lands the finishing shot? This guy? This content is protected Or, this guy? This content is protected
What a fight to think about...Good one! No way it sees the over (whatever it is) Ingo just might be the one to et off and make it count.
Wow, so now Shavers is beating Ingo? atsch How about Tommy Morrison? Butterbean? Does Pacman knock him out next? I'm going to go with the guy that stopped Cooper, Machen, and Patterson early. Ingo was a vicious finisher once he got his man hurt.
I don't think it's a great idea for Ingo to make Earnie come to him, and afford the Acorn an opportunity to unload first. Earnie wasn't Machen, and Norton paid dearly for trying to counter punch him. Shavers was not particularly durable, but it usually took a lot of hard shots to bring him down, and he did get up to knock out Jeff Sims. Johansson could be floored with a single good shot, as Patterson showed, and Ingo never avenged a knockdown in any of the three bouts where he got dropped. Shavers was a very intelligent slugger with a desperately underrated left hook. The Swede would have to be mindful of power coming from both sides.
I think Shavers's brute power attack could overwhelm the more tentative Johansson, unless Johansson finds the opening for his own right hand. Despite his early KO's against Patterson and Machen, Johansson was really a tactical fighter who would not engage his opponent until knowing his right hand would land. Shavers on the other hand just waded in to the body with both hands and set up that killer right hand of his. Johansson's flicking jab and constant movement could keep Shavers off him for long enough though for him to find the opening he needs. It probably wouldn't go past 4 rounds.
I think Earnie would get to him early. He was bigger, started faster, and Ingo wasn't as slick as a Jerry Quarry, and therefore might not land his big equalizer early enough.
Don't know. I think the Quarry fight represents the best case scenario for Johansson. It was basically Quarry finding Shavers with his best shot early. Of course Jerry was tougher than Ingermar but that didn't really come to play in their fight. Quarry took maybe one good right hand from Shavers before taking him out. Shavers got better by the late 70's though I think, atleast when it comes to dealing with punishment.
I think I favor Ingo here, only lost to the speedy Patterson....I think this one is a 2 rounder at best....but I would not count Earnie out...If I had to bet it would be Ingo but I would not bet the house
