Just watched this fight on You tube,Machen was out of it after the second knock down ,what was the referee thinking of? Reminded me of the Moore Duran slaughter. Also caught the Ali Wepner interview on the Douglas show to hype their fight Wepner easily beat Ali in the war of the words .Pity he wasn't so clever in the ring!Anothe interview with wepner after he had retired ,he said liston broke his nose ,fractured his cheek bone and put 72 stitches in his face ,and this was a 40 plus Sonny!
I have the fight, a LOT clear when see it on the big screen of couse. That was a brutal beat down Machen got. Also one of the most sickest fights ever. One of the sad points was the end. Machen's 2nds in the ring, tended to him, trying to get him back on his feet, and relive him. And what does that Ref do??? 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 9, and ten your out. I may put some snap shots of that event if you like. It was pretty funny in a sick sort of way.
Interesting that Machen came out so aggressively ,as though Ingo was nothing,I suppose he thought he was,clearly his corner didnt do their homework.That ref was adisgrace putting it up might be an education for some.:good
I had much the same impression as you did, Dempsey, when the ref is still doing that useless 10 count while Machem's handlers are trying to tend to him. Bizarre. BTW, the referee was Andrew Smyth from England.
