Ingos the more cultured fighter and the better boxer i think he can out box Baer and consistently land Thors Hammer that would wear Baer down to a mid round stoppage. But you cant discount Baer with his excellant chin and decapitating power. Ingo Mid round KO
Both had huge concussive power in their right hands,so i think it would come down to a battle of chins,and i think there's only one winner in that department,so i'd have to go for Max.
Sounds like a pretty good matchup. I don't know if anyone's ever brought this one up to tell you the truth. I don't know who to pick, but boy would it be crowd pleaser.
Odds are that Ingo will be the first to land his right, due to his superior precision and Baer's poor defense. But Baer's superior chin means he can take Ingos' right better than Ingo can take his. I'd go with Ingo, though.
Strangely enough, a decision is not out of the question here, even though we're dealing with two big punchers.
Ingo is more likely to land his power shots and would either wear Baer down and stop him or win a decision, although Max always has a chance with his power and the fact he has the better chin but I would favour Ingo.
This is not rocket science. The guy who was cold-cocked vs. Floyd Patterson up against a rock-jawed guy like Baer whose right hand was like a stick of dynamite? Ingo I admire quite a bit, and he had a huge right hand, but so did Max Schmeling. Baer finds that chin in the 3rd round and it's over.
Baer was the bigger and more athletic man. Ingo might shake him but I have no doubt that a motivated Max Baer would stop or knock Johansson out - somewhere in the middle rounds.
I'll pick Baer by stoppage sometime before the 9th round. I see both fighters landing big early on before a shaken Ingo tries to box Max and keep him at distance. Ingo doesn't really possess the ability to do this well, and Max starts to catch him more frequently in the middle rounds. The referee rescues a battered Ingo after a couple of knockdowns in the 8th.
Dont know the pick of Ingo here. Sure Baer was sloppy, but with a chin like Baer's, you can get away with it. Ingo may land his best punch, and maybe even knock Baer down, MAYBE. But Baer can take it, plus more, and Ingo cant. Once Baer starts landed the heavy and killer blows, it wont be long before the ref counts ten. Ingo didnt relly have the best chins.
