Hey wats up guys, I been training pretty good for like a month and a half, and just when my arches stopped being sore and i was feeling great, BAM my knuckle gets messed up lol. Whenever I make a fist and try to open it, the ligament/bone/whatever it is on top of my pinky knuckle shifts out of place, and it hurts to throw right hands. I showed my trainer and he said it happens dont worry, but i dont want to injure my hand furthur or feel pain whenever i connect with something.

has this happened to anyone else and should i be worried?

You will get injured in boxing. Its the guys that learn or heal from mistakes are what make them great.. Ice it twice a day and dont use it as an excuse to cut class.

    You are fine.

that happened to me a while back on my middle finger, what happened was it swelled up so bad that when i made a fist it looked like there was a big hole in it but that was actually the undamaged, unswollen part. i could move it around when i made a fist and it hurt like hell to punch anything. my advice would be go to a doctor and get x-rays if it doesnt go down soon. make sure you ice it and you might have to give it a rest. but make sure you dont cut down on your training, while your letting your hand heal work twice as hard on your footwork and conditioning and anything else that you dont need your hand for. my knuckle didnt go down for almost 6 months because i wouldnt stop hitting stuff, so dont make the same mistake i did. if it doesnt go down go get x-rays.

Cut your hand off and just fight with the stub... It's what a real man would do.

Youre a doctor since when ?

Your trainer could have seen this type of injury heal fine a million times but so many things can go wrong with the human body , it takes maximum half an hour for a doctor to look over it so for peace of mind why dont you just go there.

Your correct he should see a doctor depending on the severity. But he decided to ask a boxing forum for advise and I responded.

Depends on how bad it is. My first coach used to say that in boxing some injuries give you two choices: let it heal, or mess it up more and end up undermining your boxing careers. If it's a scratch, then obviously keep training, but remember, a hands aren't meant for punching, and a boxer must protect his tools. They can't be replaced.

I would say any kind of pain that is aggravating enough to think about throughout the day or keeping you from doing certain tasks like writing or typing. Those types of triggers are enough to see a doctor. If the pain only happens while hitting the bag you probably only need to make sure you are wrapping your hands correctly. I prefer the 200 inch wrap made by grant. You also might try a thicker glove.
