There were many moments in Inoue-Doheny fight - and especially at end of Rd 6 and in Rd 7 - where Inoue landed "illegal" punches...because Doheny turned his body...and those punches resulted in a stoppage loss. This content is protected This is often seen in "slick" fighters a la Mayweather who complain when they're hit in the side/back because the turn laterally OR hit atop the head/rabbit punch because they bend at the waist. Likewise GGG had landed illegal punches on opponents bc of their moving. Whose fault is it? Doheny (or Floyd or whichever "slick" fighter) or Inoue (or GGG or whichever aggressor)
I don't think you can blame Inoue or GGG they are aggressive and going for the kill. TJ was out gunned and just doing whatever he could to protect himself. As for the comparison to Floyd yes he did complain to the ref but if he was actually hurt he wouldn't rely on the ref to protect him he would've just adjusted his game plan mid fight because he is elite and capable of doing so where TJ is not on the same level as Floyd or Inoue.
Good point. Nonetheless I was always annoyed when "slick" fighters complained when punches landed in an illegal place...mostly due to their own movements...
Protect Yourself At All Times. If you deliberately position your body to get hit with an illegal blow, then you deal with the repercussions.
Yeah a lot of the time the slick fighter is to blame for dipping to low or turning to the side when defending and exposing their back more to the opponent. The best tactic that most trainers will tell you against a slick defensive guy is just to hit him where ever you can. The same thing used to happen to my man Anthony Mundine he was very slick defensively he took a lot of punches on his side and hips he actually had hip surgery at the back end of his career that is why if you see his last 10 fights or so he wore a big cup and had it high he never did this until after the surgery. He was likely banged up from Rugby League as well but these sort of punches likely contributed.
You can't turn your back against an opponent. Punches are bound to stray when you turn your back. Inoue was trying to hit the ribs and Doheny turn his back into the punch. Look at the Garcia vs Haney fight. What Garcia did pissed me off when he goes into his homeless Philly shell. He basically invites opponents to hit him in the back when he did that.
I am not big on Boots Ennis but my Lord would he slaughter Ryan Garcia and it would likely be a body shot. That Philly Shell he does is def a homeless man six deep on 211s
