That’s actually potentially a very deep division but hard to tell until one of the top guys fights someone who’s crossed up to BW-FW to use as a measuring stick. I think Inoue cleans it out, easy, I think he runs over Román and rungvisai and nietes for example. The best guys at the lower weights shine through, donaire, Rigo, Inoue. If they’re that good they can come up a couple Of divisions and challenge a real name like Rigo to see where they stack.
One could say that if Donaire was allowed to wear his preferred Brand and style of glove that that hook would have dropped Inoue, possibly KOing him.
I tend to agree. A great fight but I would not say it raised his stature. Inoue can be hit and he was mightily several times tonight. Donaire showed real grit, even finishing the fight. You got the sense, though, that Inoue could be caught at any moment. Kudos to Donaire.
Why would Donaire, who I don't recall ever wearing Winning brand gloves, all of a sudden wear a pair for the biggest fight of his late career?
Inoue is number four on ESPN's rankings and Canelo is number three. Loma is number one and Crawford is number two.
Loma and Crawford both fight on their network. I'm not sure at what point they decided to be disingenuous ("LINEAL"), but it's a pathetic direction.
Loma and Crawford both fight on ESPN so on ESPN's pound for pound list they are numbers one and two. Canelo fights for Golden Boy Promotions which owns The Ring Magazine so he's number one on their pound for pound rankings. No conflict of interest at all. I hope the different pound for pound magazine rankers stop ranking their rivals champions just like the regulating organizations and we start getting more interesting pound for pound lists. OR we could have diamond and franchise pound for pounders.
if only there was a reputable boxing source with a reputation for honest and knowledgeable assessments. they could award their own symbolic belt and rankings. maybe we could have our own esb rankings as a gift to the boxing community. theres enough knowledge lurking around to get a better list than anything thats out there right now. the challenge would be shutting down the fan boys and trolls in order to get an accurate consensus.
The Ring withheld putting him at number one until this week. I can't fault them for that although they probably were a little generous for putting him in the top ten after beating Trout.
