The moment I read the title I knew it's gonna be a Hauser article, Top Rank's own hack. Now I haven't read the article, will do later, it's just... well I kinda know what to expect, unfortunately. Too bad a skilled journalist as Thomas sold his soul to the Bobfather, I mean his last 10 HBO/GBP/TR related articles were all extremely pro-Arum and anti-Golden Boy/Home Box Office. I'll be happy to come back and report if it's different.
Wow - great article. Thanks for posting. It validates a lot of the things I've thought about HBO and Greenburg over the past few years.
Some of these boxers forget, HBO made them rich. They made the purses bigger, they made PPV what it is today. Showtime gives to me somtimes the better fight, but i have to utube them, cause i don't get showtime. I mean they made hopkins a rich man, no way is that guy going to get money outside of HBO, same with mayweather most of his career, it wasn't till he fought DLH, did he sell out a fight. It sucks, HBO lost bute to showtime, now pacman, of course not much cause he will be on PPV.......
While I understand part of what you're saying I think the article underscores a theme with HBO's approach to boxing. They believe that they are on top of boxing's food chain and that they can continue to dictate terms even if it means undermining the very promoters and fighters that bring them the revenues. I personally think their commentating and production value is top notch but there is a reason why Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, JCC all left to go to Showtime; Seth Abraham was simply too arrogant for his own good missing out in blockbusters that helped its rival network bridge the gap. The lack of creativity especially on Ross's part was made clear in the article. HBO could leverage the Time Warner networks by taking advantage of the synergies between the premium and terrestrial networks by expanding coverage and viewer ship to give young fighters who are future stars so that a guy like Alvarez, Bradley and Alexander can become household names by advancing the careers of new talent in front of a broader audience. HBO doesn't want Bob out, they just figured he didn't really have many options since HBO has a biggest checkbook around. Turns out he does.
The fact that your already tearing the article down without reading it shows you that your bias against TR. Top rank has done a lot of bad like inhouse fight. HBO is not without fault. its great to see their dirty for everyone to see.
HBO doesn't need Pac ,they're the one's who built him up and when Floyd comes back the golden gates will be open for him to break all PPV records watch and see Mark my words.
These are words of wisdom. :deal I was thinking along these lines too, except that Ross Greenberg was the ******* who lied and said negotiations occurred which put Floyd in the bad light. atsch
Yep hauser has a hard on for hbo but the article still has good points.hbo could do alot more to promote fights and fighters.also their is defentialy bias in hbo look at how they handle berto, dawson, Guerrero compared to martinez, adamek, soto.Bob maybe be an ass but he is still one of the main players in the industry and hbo should have treated him with more respect i mean giving one of his tv dates for a gamboa fight to alvarez/hatton.:nut.Also not going to his sons funeral is just low
