We know about fights between a brawler and a boxer, but what about infighter vs. outfighter? What were some great fights between one guy who likes to fight up close and personal, and one guy who prefers to fight from a distance?
Chavez vs Kostya Tszyu. (I'm a huge Kostya fan, people don't like the fact that this fight happened, but Tszyu showed his control of distance in this fight.)
oh if its a brawler slugger vs a boxer thing that poeple are posting up then id say tyson vs holmes was a good example of that
Most of my favorite fights are of the real estate variety. Whitaker vs. JCC is a classic example of this. ODLH vs. Vargas. Oscar wanted to keep the fight at the end of his jab.
Antonio Tarver vs Danny Green John Murray vs Kevin Mitchell Marquez vs Diaz 1 (Diaz boxed from the outside in the second fight.) Marquez vs Katsidis Carl Froch vs Glen Johnson Alexander vs Matthysse P Malignaggi vs Juan Diaz 1&2
Hearns-Duran wasn't a great fight but kind of answers the question. Mugabi was good at range and gave Hagler a great battle. And surprised no one's mentioned McCallum-Toney.
And I realise Hloyfield was effective on the inside, but I do view him as a distance fighter first,so his battle with the great Dwight Muhammed Qawi surely must be one of the best examples.
Chavez vs Taylor I Not a fun fight, but a perfect example is Urango vs Alexander Juan Diaz vs Popo Freitas Holyfield vs Qawi I Williams vs Margarito Cruz vs Mashaba (a closet classic) Campbell vs Quiles (brutal) Ward vs Kessler Calderon vs Segura (both fights, but odd because the little weak guy wa the outside guy) It's very rare for this type of matchup to make a good fight. Unless the inside fighter is just better, the outside guy usually wins.
