The facts are Kermit was 24-0 with 22 ko's when Marshall and I trained Kermit and Kermit followed our instructions. All of his losses came when he started letting his girlfriend dictate how he should prepare for a fight.
Marshall and I took a 19 yr. old kid (a kid that turned out to be gutless) that never boxed a day in his life and made him a world champion in 4 yrs. Undefeated at 24-0 22 ko's. Half of his fights being televised. All major networks... HBO PPV Showtime NBC Telefutura.
But yeah,,, you're right! He was so smart in firing us. He has been a blistering success ever since. LOL
I see in your profile you say you are a trainer. Have you guided anyone from there first day in the gym... to undefeated world champion???? If what we did was nothing special... go to a college find yourself a wrestler and do with him what we did with Kermit.

Conditioner, how was he managed in order to become a world champ? Many guys who start boxing late with little or no amateur experience are used as nothing but record padders.

How was Kermit's career guided matchmaking wise in order to secure big title shots for him even though he had no boxing experience?

Well kermit had tremendous natural physical ability. That was obvious from the start. We trained him to maximize his physical gifts and advantages. Right from the jump sparring was our main focus. Kermit sparred A LOT of rounds. We made up for his lack of experience with sparring. We also made sure Kermit boxed real fighters. Kermit boxed more experienced guys from early on in his career. Andrew Lewis. Kassim Ouma. Arturo Gatti. Bernard Hopkins. Steve Little. Wherever we could get good work.... we got it. The plan being that we over compensated in the gym, and took chance in the gym so that when Kermit fought a guy that on paper looked to be on his level or maybe even better... he actually wasn't because Kermit had faced much better fighters in the gym.
An interesting side not... does anyone recall last night the announcers saying "Kermit does not like to spar a lot?" Since when does a fighter dictate how much sparring he does. I think that was a great indicator of what Kermits career has become. Less sparring = worse fighter.

I've officially given up all hope with Cintron now. Stuck by him through the Martinez and Williams scandals. Had the makings to be a very good fighter and for a long time I was saying he was the best fighter out of Puerto Rico, not Miguel Cotto. He had pretty good form with his punches, at some point someone realised this guy was a killer puncher and taught him how to throw each punch properly so as to get the necessary leverage on them and knock guys out. Always came into the ring in good physical condition but you could tell mentally he was there. He always seemed as if he had someone to blame and when you have that, losing isn't so tough because you can blame it on someone else and you can wilt under the pressure.

Such a shame. Damn shame indeed.

The knockout of Matthysse was the best knockout of the 2000-2010 decade.

IIRC, Conditioner said you couldn't split them over 24 sparring rounds...

When he quit in sparring against Yusaf Mack, was Mack fighting as a middle or supermiddle at the time?

And why do you think he quit?

Yes I was surprised to see Kermit lose so bad to and opponent of that caliber. I was surprised at how soft Kermit looked physically, and his punches did not look hard at all.

:think About even. I think Zab is vulnerable to a lot more different styles than Kermit is though. Kermit is a lot more wasted potential in my opinion.

Thats not an exaggeration... it was right before Kermit fought Elio Ortiz. It was really something to see. It was like Kermit put it all together. Let me clarify that Kermit did NOT kick Bernards ass, but he did edge him out in quite a few rounds, held the rounds even in others, and in other rounds Bernard got the better of Kermit. If you watch the Teddy Reid fight yo uwill here Jim Lampley say Bernard gave Kermit his seal of approval... he is the real deal.

Both. The size wasn't the problem... Kermit was much stronger then Yusef, and they were pretty much the same size. Kemits problem then was the same as it is now. Mentally weak. Once things didnt go his way he submitted mentally. If Kermit was feeling really good, and got off on Yusef early he would dominate him. If things went bad for Kermit early he laid on the ropes and took and ass kicking... so much so that at times Yusef would walk away from him.
