DAMN, that **** is emotional. I was thinking this isn't much of a tear jerker but I miss the *******s. Then Arguello's son had to **** it all up talking about what happened in the dressing room. Then I felt the water gather behind my eyeballs and that is where it stayed. But to me, water behind the eyeballs means it's some deep ****.

Forrest and Arguello were good men. Gatti was a warrior but Forrest and Arguello made the world a better place.

 

i always felt you have brutal, violent moments in boxing but you also have moments of emotion and a kind of ****ed up romance, for me its why its special and what makes the boxers special.

 

yeh i loved that and he genuinly meant it

heres just a story of kindness (out of many stories)

When Arguello fought Bobby Chacon, at the weigh in he say Chacon stading on the cold ground in just his pants so he took his jacket off and layed it on the ground for him to stand on and not get so cold.

I'm saddened today to have read of the death of my third favorite fighter ever, Alexis Arguello. What a great, great fighter, and an even better man.

When he fought Bobby Chacon in defense of his 130-pound title, he went to the weigh-in to see Chacon standing there waiting around the scale in his bare feet on the cold concrete floor. Arguello took his robe off and put it down on the ground, and asked Bobby to stand on that, so that he wouldn't catch a cold.

When Ray Mancini lost to him in his try at the 135-pound title, he was really down because he wanted to win it for his father, who had lost his chance at a lightweight title when he was drafted during WWII. Arguello told him not to worry, he would be a champ for sure, and told him what a beautiful gesture it was dedicating this fight to his father. He made Ray promise to call him and let him know if there was ever anything he could do for either of them. When Alexis was done talking, Ray was smiling again, and felt okay.

Those are just two examples. That's just the way he was, such things were not unusual.

I don't know how much you know of him, but his like will not be seen again. Champion in three weight divisions (when that actually meant something; I think he was the fifth man in history to do it), so savvy, so learned, so gutty and skilled. He could also take you out at any time with either hand, and with any punch he threw.

 

yeh it was them body shots early then he had great fitness that kept his power late lethal combination

It is people like these legends that make me proud of boxing and proud to be a boxing fan. Not just because they were great fighters, but great people - great human beings - that were fantastic ambassadors for our sport.
Sometimes in all the excitement, the thrills, the spills, the glories, the disappointments, the controversies and the general madness of our beloved sport, we forget that our heroes and the warriors of the ring that we admire so much are first and foremost human beings. Real people with families, etc.
We get so caught up in the moment sometimes, we tend to selfishly see them as our own personal super heroes there to perform for us. But as was mentioned in the video Jeff posted, it's not just boxing's loss, it's humanity's loss. All three will be sorely missed.

I've always in particular been a great admirer of Vernon Forrest. This man was a real champion in and out of the ring.

thanks for posting this jeff watchin it was abit of a emotional rollercoaster Arguellos son was brave goin on it clearly still at the earliest stage of grieving for his dad.
i dont know about the rest of you but these 3 deaths still dont seem real to me
