Coming off the Outjabbing Thread, what are instances where the better counterpuncher got caught into an attacking game? I remember when Hearns laid back against Benitez for 6 boring rounds piling up points with only the jab. Then Benitez, seeing that he was slipping behind, decided to go on the attack. And made himself available for Hearns' brutal power! :yep This content is protected
Sambu Kalambay inflicted the first defeat on the previously seemingly unhittable Herol Graham, Sambu kept it compact and concise, forcing Herol to be unusually aggressive. this gave Sambu more target options, sometimes instead of throwing wildly like a lot of Herols frustrated opponents Sambu often Outwaited him, forcing Herol to try and Innitiate, it made Herol out of character and out of sorts, Sambu repeated the feat in the later return match.
Toney vs Littles Jones vs RJohnson not really forced but pretty much called 4 : Reggie Johnson immediately after his KD of Toney many Toney , Griffin , Jones and Qawi fights in general .
Miguel Lora against a choking Ray Minus, except he decided to barely bother and so began one of the worst fights of all-time. Pedroza vs Bernard " it was the unusual heat in the belfast arena that made me quit" Taylor is another similar one. Then there's Eubank vs Sherry, Esset and Schommer Zapata vs Olivo for a much more successful one.
Marlon Starling was an aggressive counter puncher anyway, but he seemed to look at Michael Nunn's approach with disdain as the fight went on, showed his usual ace blend of defence and forward movement and was pushing Nunn back in the last round! First fight above welter against a physical freak. Lost comfortably, but was competitive throughout in a bout he really shouldn't have been competitive in. Nunn was having one of his unmotivated performances also it seems.
Man did those fights blow... Taylor really deserved a Lou Bizarro-esque finish after that blatant track-fest.
Hagler-Hearns. Tommy was faster and had a longer reach, so Hags was going to have a helluva time countering him. He had to attack.
Willie Pastrano-Harold Johnson. Pastrano made Harold come to him..got Johnson out of his comfort zone and just did nick the decision IMO.
Do you mean Trinidad vs Whittaker? If not then I'll just assume this was some sort of lucha style match early in his career in which the winner got to keep the nickname Tito.
