1) Eric Harding: referee says are you ok? Not where are you from?? Harding says "I'm from Philadelphia" lol. Floyd vs bruseles: telling Lampley his Superbowl prediction. Antonio Tarver " got any excuses tonight Roy?" Mike Tyson "he was making woman gestures in there lol". Shane mostley: let out a yelp during Forrest 1 when he got hit with a bodyshot on the ropes. Caleb plant: "do you think I'm good?" To Canelo lol.
Sanders and Sprott had a big ol chat in the ring This content is protected also one of the worst stoppages ever
Shannon Briggs told Jameel McCline something like "Dude, I'll knock you out!" seconds before McClain dropped him hard with left/right/left combo. It was epic
How it was bad? Good stoppage. If you want to see bad stoppage watch Sprott vs Gerber or Gary Mason vs James Tillis - those were really, really bad
Larry Holmes having a conversation with a cameraman while set up in the corner and countering Ray Mercer. Like 2-3 punches, turn his head to the side and say something, then turn back to Ray and work him over some more. And Muhammad Ali’s in-ring taunting of George Foreman (imagine the minerals it takes to do that with George pounding away) I think helped break Foreman mentally: “They told me you could hit hard. Don’t let me down, George.”
The guy was on his feet at 9 and seemed clear headed. You don't stop a fight like that especially when the fighter is fresh. If it was round 10 and the guy was a mess ... different story Edit: Just looked up the Gerber fight and Sprott / Gerber is even worse omg. Looks like Sprott is cursed. Ref was looking for an excuse to stop it.
Mason vs Tillis was also clearly far worse. It was Gerber - Sprott-level stoppage. Just watch it: This content is protected
He looked right into the camera and said "I'm not Tommy Morrison". There's also a point in the last round where he shouts in Mercer's face.
James “The Grim Reaper” Roper vs. “Irish” Terry Conklin had an uncommon amount of ring chatter both ways. This content is protected
Most dramatic exchange in boxing history: Ali: “They told me you was all washed up.” Frazier: “They lied.”
Evander just missed copping a filthy mouthful from Larry Holmes shortly after final bell. Larry was only trying to give The Real Deal a Real, Regurgitated Meal. This content is protected
Ali was involved in a bunch of those. He kept asking one fella ‘what’s my name?’ You think the guy would know because I’m sure it was on the posters and in the program and even announced during introductions … but then again you’d think Ali would know without needing to ask. Maybe he should have asked his corner if he forgot. Odd situation.
Joe Frazier related this. Ali denied it, stating that he wouldn’t disrespect his religion or his god expressing himself thusly. Personally, I’d sooner believe Joe than I would Ali. Per Joe, in perfect staccato rhythm with the punches Ali had just landed on Joe in FOTC, Ali rhetorically asked Joe: - “Don’t you know I’m God?” Joe replied,”Well God, you’re getting your *** whupped!” They were both very chatty during the FOTC, so much so, at one point, Mercante warned them both and told them to be quiet. Re the chatting, even the announcer Don Dunphy mused in bemusement “They’ve got time for that?” In addressing a possible fight between he and Ali, Foreman said although he felt he could KO Ali, he didn’t think he could ever stop Ali from talking - with Ali still jabbering away even if he was flat out on the canvas. Lol, good one George.
George Foreman put his hands on his hips and spoke to reporters in the Alex Stewart fight. Alex bopped him in the face to remind him where he was. I think it was about round 9 and George had already told one of his corner to 'shut up'. He was proper rattled in this fight and looked terrible. It was the only time in career two he went off script.
