Instead of challenging overgrown midgets, why won't Sergio Martinez look at 168lbs...

Martinez is a former WW and LMW. Martinez is still really a LMW. Why would Martinez want to fight at 12 stone and probabaly be too small and get beaten by bigger fghters?

He said he wants to be the number one fighter in the world. Why not challenge Floyd and Manny? No one is going to force them to fight Martinez. He doesn't have a lot of good options for big fights.

According to him he can't get below 156. So he is in effect now a middleweight. Super middle is not as big of a stretch for his frame as Pac and Mayweather, 5-6/5-8 smaller frame guys fighting him at middleweight is.

Martinez is 36 years old and barely filing out at Mw, he also started his career at Welter and spent most of his career at JM... He also weighed under the limit tonight at 158. Pac and Mayweather are the 2 best above him and can make him more money than anyone... WHy wouldnt he want to face them? If your gonna bash Martinez for calling those guys out then why dont you start bashing atgs like Hagler and Monzon? They fought the Welter kings and never went pass MW.... Even Hopkins did until later in his career and hes bar far the much bigger guy than Martinez.

Pac and Mayweather are relatively small welter kings when compared to Leonard and Hearns, Trinidad and De La Hoya..Martinez should make a concerted effort to get back down to below 154 if he wants those fights badly. As he's said, there is not much that interests him at 160 anyway

True Pac and May arent as big as those guys .. . But Napoles(who Monxon beat) was a small welter.. In fact he ended up moving to Welter cause couldnt get a shot at the LW crown.... Martinez also isnt as big as Monzon and Hopkins..

Ok all that being said though yes Martinez is the bigger man but thats where the money is at... And many have him number 3....Only way to get to number 1 is to beat Mayweather or Pac.

Well, I think of it as two different pathways. Beating Pac or Floyd will turn you into rock star overnight. Sure, Sergio can fight those SMWs who you mentioned, and I'd like to see it too, but at this point it's not desirable to him - you know, just like how Pac could've fought better opposition than Margarito but Manny was more interested in a guy who is 10 times slower than him.

Whether it's Pac or Bute, I really don't think either choice is bad for Sergio. Let him choose. You might say he's picking on a small guy but that small guy nearly killed a 165 lb man who was basically a Super Middleweight after rehydration.

I'll admit Sergio wants the easier route. But you have to understand he's closer to 40 than 30 yrs of age. It's now or never. And really, who hasn't taken an easy route? Floyd fought an undersized Marquez and Pac beat an undeserving mummy to win his "8th title."
