Interesting idea; I've done this in the past for other countries (an active top ten) but never Japan to my recollection.

    This person on Twitter has:

    1. Naoya Inoue
    2. Kazuto Ioka
    3. Kenshiro Teraji
    4. Kōsei Tanaka
    5. Ryōta Murata
    6. Junto Nakatani
    7. Hiroto Kyōguchi
    8. Masayoshi Nakatani
    9. Daigo Higa
    10. Takuma Inoue
That at first blush seems...alright? You could maybe argue for the likes of Mora and Maruta being on the bubble, not sure their résumé are strong enough to displace anyone. I also think Kyōguchi rates a little higher in h2h terms but again, he lacks the depth of quality beaten that a Murata has.

I'd not have Mori anywhere close personally, he'd have to be behind Maruta for me

Kyoguchi should be above Junto Nakatani IMO

No argument with the top 4, would shift 5,6,7

I'm not sure Nakatani si the best in Japan 135 (Yoshino anyone?) Higa would be moved up a place
Takuma I'm not sure has any wins that are better than Maruta's over Segawa, or Shigeoka's over Loreto or Mishiro's win over Ito... Ogawa also needs to not be ignored

I'll have a proper think a bit later though.

Maruta over Mori based on a superior outing against Tameda, or just like the sum of his victories more (offsetting his blemishes)?

I also was thinking maybe Wake and/or Teshigawara could be in with a shout (on the back-end if anything)...more likely deserving of fleshing out a top 15.

Iwasa before the Akhmadaliev loss would've been a lock, no?

I think a win over Sagawa trumps anything Mori has (though I rate Pumicpic as a good win felt Mori was luck in the.... I want to say first one). Sagawa, Ohashi and the robbery (least I felt it was a robbery) Vs Mananquil see him edge Mori (though Mori beating Shimizu would make it a very tight battle).

Teshigawara some how slipped my mind, as did Tomoki Kameda!

Struggle with including Wake right now, though him and Abe would be there, there about the top 20-25
Iwasa prior to the recent loss would indeed have been a lock for me, though he's always blown so hot and cold

 Hinata Maruta, featherweight. Not to be confused with Ryōta Murata...

    Different guy
Maruta is the Japanese Featherweight champion, from the Morioka Gym, not the Middleweight from the Teiken gym ;)

    Right
    1-Inoue (N)
    2-Ioka
    3-Kenshiro
    4-Tanaka
    5-Kyoguchi
    6-Nakatani (J)
    7-Murata
    8-Higa
    9-Teshigawara
    10-Kameda

Thinking about it Higa actually isn't a definitive yes for me... I'm thinking Nishida gives him hell next week end, Tsutsumi did the same. Bantamweight Higa... Hmmm we'll see. I've included him but there's a lot on the bubble:
    Ogawa
    Maruta
    Shigeoka (G)
    Mori
    Yoshino
    Mishiro
    Yabuki
    Taniguchi
    Inoue (Takuma)
Takayama (if he beats Soto next month he goes in around #8)
Abe (in terms of pure skill he's up there in the top 10...Sadly skills don't it all)

Think we might be seeing Shimomachi knocking on the door in 2022 along with Kuwahara, Kimura (R), Shigeoka (Y), Fujita (I think they'll strap a rocket to him) and Nakagaki (rocket will be attached shortly)

B-but the list was just some random Twitter user's, and the point of my thread was to discuss whom else any of us thought might deserve a spot. If you follow the context of the convo we clearly were talking about someone left off seiha_wilder's list - hence on the bubble - and contracted his record with somebody named Mori's (that is, Musashi...granted I flubbed in my OP mistyping as Mora, or more likely not catching the autocorrect dicking me over, so mea culpa there, but there's no middleweight in the country afaik named Mora or Mori)

Nobody else's fault you DKSA Japanese boxing outside the couple of names any casual does. :pancarta::pancarta:

How about the winner of Toyoshima vs. Beppu next month, knocking on the door?

No. Not for me tbh. Can't have either of those guys above Obara TBH.

Likewise wouldn't consider triple crown champion Fukunaga (115), or OPBF/JBC Middleweight champion Takesako (or the winner of Takesako Vs Kunimoto). They might hold titles but they aren't as good as some of those without belts.
