Boxing commentators typically use metaphorical descriptions based on the premise that the superior boxer holds a superior intellect. They constantly rave about ring IQ when the said boxer can barely string a sentence together. Is there any other sport where intelligence metaphors are routinely manipulated or is this a misconception being perpetuated exclusively on the gullible boxing fan base ?
Basketball 100% I have said this for years. A guy said to me last year that Zion Williamson (the high school phenom) had great basketball IQ. I asked what the hell he was talking about.. Zion just runs up the floor and dunks on 5foot white kids, how has he shown a great basketball IQ? He couldn't answer me. I absolutely cannot stand it when people just see an athletic person and say 'He can run, he can jump, he has amazing basketball IQ' it's clearly just said so people can add on positives about someone to make a list of the persons abilities sound even better. Im convinced most commentators and fans couldn't pin point an exact definition of what having a high IQ for said sport, even means.
Boxing "iq" has nothing to do with your level of educated intelligence. Its simply your ability to adapt to what your opponent is doing. The fact that you guys dont understand this tells me you guys never competed in any actual competition. I could be wrong. saying someone has a "high iq" in a sport is pretty simple to understand. Its basically the ability to adapt to a situation and do what needs to be done to win when something else isnt working. hope that helps.
there are different forms of intelligence, knowing how to best use your skill and body to overcome an opponent is just one form. some people have a natural instinct on how to move to get the desired effect from what your adversary is showing you, that is individual intelligence.
That's not what we are talking about. It's about the commentary of athletes that are given the label without merit. For example if I said 'Jeff Horn showed a lot of heart and ring IQ tonight' wouldn't you say what the hell am I talking about?
How relevant is "knowing how to use your skill and body" in climbing the corporate ladder for the average citizen? It's a deliberately and continuously used misnomer.
He has the same IQ as Lebron James the greats of all time. Even though i think Curry is a better shooter and smarter player. Lebron is better because he is 6'8 with big muscles and strong.
Knocking out a larger opponent has as much to do with IQ as the skinny guy being able to eat more hotdogs than the larger, heavier person.
lol, when guys like you fight maybe, but these fighters have weeded out all the scrubs youre talking about, now its a game of inches.
Ok so youre basically talking about something that has nothing to do with fighters but about the announcers. Announcers are paid to talk so they talk. A large majority of what comes out is b.s. I enjoy very few announcers. Not sure what the point of this thread is then.
some people have no idea how to play any given sport, even after years of playing. some just know what to do. most athletes have miniscule actual iq's.
