Isnt it fascinating the intense debates regarding Hatton Witter? Boxing boards across the internet are literally awash with hundreds of threads on this bout. Has there ever been a more intense call for a fight ever in the history of British boxing? Surely Hatton is aware of the public demand for this fight despite his assertions that he wants to reward his fans at Wembley?:think

The threads in the last few days could not be described as "debates". More like blatant hatred.

That's the point isn't it Scurla. Every boxing fan wants to see it, but every other ****er has no clue who Witter is and they're the ones the promoters want.

Thats a problem, how big can a fight be if it just appeals to boxing fans? You don't hear this fight mentioned much in the rags, in work, down the pub etc. Outside of boxing theres not a big clamour for it.

And before anyone kicks off thats not to put Witter down or to make an excuse for Hatton, its a serious observation/ question. Just how big is this fight REALLY? People talk about it rivaling Benn-Eubank, Sibson-Minter, Lewis-Bruno etc but believe me outside of boxing its nowhere near that level.

i think globally, calzaghe - kessler was also debated intensely until the fight was finally made.

Yes, but I don't recall anybody launching scathing personal attacks on either fighter, or their families. Certain people here have been getting completely carried away with this Hatton/Witter thing, and it's spoiling the British forum.
There is a lot of decent boxing around at the moment, yet people seem to be obsessed with a fight that probably isn't even going to happen. As already said, how big would it really be anyway?
I always thought Gary Mason and Frank Bruno should have fought, but they didn't. It never turned into an obsession.

Cant agree more, alot of people on here are calling Hattons family and are sounding insane!

Its becoming a kind of obsession with some people, the traditional British public have built Hatton up, he lost one fight and people couldnt wait to tear him down. According to alot of people he has never beaten anybody adn is an overated bum!

Boxing is NOT mainstream anymore. PBF Hatton only garnered interest because the Media got behind it. How many guys in your local are talking about Mac vs Haye? Provided the media get behind it the fight can be a huge domestic bout because of the bad blood. But the key here is the media.

TBH Scura quite a few people are talking about Mac-Haye because they've seen Enzo fighting on ITV. Most havn't heard of Haye though.

I take your point though, most people down my local only tend to get really interested when Khans on.

Hatton abuses the fact that he can sell a fight with anyone in the other corner.

Hatton should see what is happening to Haye v Maccaranelli. Hatton v Witter could be bigger.

    I prefer mass-debate as opposed to intense-debate.

    Thats right.

Personally and somewhat selfishly I prefer it being less mainstream.

I mean im a massive football fan....but Jesus Christ I cannot stand 3 quarters of the fans of my own team (Celtic) never mind the mindless yobs that populate Hatton fights.

They know nothing about the sport and completly disrespect and degrade it in my opinion with some of their antics.

Anyone who thinks this wont capture the mainstream publics imagination is a fool.

A HAtton fight will always be big, but a fight against a hated British rival, who is also a world champ, it wont take long beofre everybody is talking about it.

Plus every boxing fan worth his salt wants to see it happen.

There is simply no excuse for Hatton not to fight Witter.
