A really interesting read, the last few parts especially. Imagine the difference nowadays if fighters had their own money up for grabs in the fight. Jeffries was a perfect example of what the article was referring to in fighters relying on pure strength and aggression rather than boxing technique.
Yeah, I couldn't fault the reasoning. Those men from the 1800s were guaranteed to come to fight, with their money literally "at stake", and fighting to the finish, winner-takes-all.
