Because Mosley was top in the division. a peak Cotto and Mosley had just a few fights prior fought on almost even ground, Cotto then goes on to get brutally stopped and beat up by Margarito, who Mosley then destroys, and then looks shaky in a close close win over joshua clottey..... Now im not complaining about him fighting Cotto, it was a good oppurtunity for Cotto, but if he wanted to fight the man in the division at the time, it was shane mosley, for being almost even with cotto head to head, but moreso for destroying the guy that beat cotto one fight prior. Its not a huge deal.... as i think welterweight is still sorting itself out, but still, not sure how you can view Cotto and Mosley fight a close scrap with Cotto eeking out a win, then Cotto gets beat up by margarito BAD, Mosley then fights Margarito and destroys him, then Cotto goes on to struggle with Joshua Clottey, and the guy who is calling you out (mosley) just destroyed the guy that BEAT cotto and joshua clottey. that being said, cotto did infact beat mosley so it can go eather way.... thing is, cotto took a massive massive beating since then, and another beating in a fight almost right after. Not when your the man of your division. How dumb is that? Your not a high profile fighter (meaning one of the handful of fighters in the world that ARE high profile), so it doesnt matter that your better then the guy im facing in your division, your profile isnt high enough for me to fight you, despite your #1 ranking in the division im supposedly set on making history at. Hey, big profile fights are part of the sport and i dont think a fighter should be denied high profile fights because the certain guy isnt the man, but then at least go fight the guy you should be fighting, the actual ruler of the division after you make your money in a high profile fight. All in all, Cotto was still a very good fight for Pac, and was with mayweather gone, the previous number one at welter, and current number three behind Mosley and Margarito.... a better fight for Cotto at that point, because it was a great oppurtunity to get back on track, but with Collazo, Cotto, and Margarito in his recent fights, and having only lost to cotto in a very close fight out of those three.... and cotto being completely stomped and then another close close fight.... it was clear at the time who was on the decline, and who wasnt, who was vulnerable, and who wasnt, and that shane was rated higher at the time then cotto. I am not, and will never complain that Pac fought cotto, and anyone who thinks he was cherrypicking are absurd. Miguel Cotto was a very good, top welterweight, but anyone who also cant see that Cotto was just destroyed two fights prior, and barely escaped with a win in his previous fight, while Mosley went on to destroy margarito and become the number one welterweight, and Cotto looked much, much more vulnerable then mosley, is also not dealing with reality. If Pac never fights Mosley, i wont mind because hes fighting Mayweather, and he fought the next best guy in Cotto. Doesnt mean Mosley didnt deserve that fight, and wasnt the better guy at that time. just my thoughts on the issue
I think if Manny was interested in really making history instead of getting a paper record, at 135 he would have fought Campbell or Casamayor, at 140 he would have fought Bradley or Holt (I believe those two where the major belt holders at the time), and at 147 he would have fought Mosley. Yeah they would have made less money, but he would have been beating the best in each division and cementing his greatness. He choose to consistantly fight big names but subpar talent and ability in his fights at 135 and above and fighting Cotto over Mosley is a great example. Handwraps or whatever, Margo still has a W over Cotto in the record books. Mosley still beat that ass in a dominating fashion. As for Manny now, he isn't interested in being the best WW, he is looking for money now, so why shouldn't he fight Floyd? My logic is simple, it is if you claim that you are doing something for greatness, then fight the best for greatness. IF you are looking for the most money, then fight the fights that give you the most money. But don't try to say you are fighting for greatness and legacy, but then do the opposite.
As long as the winner of Floyd/Pac fights Shane, I don't give a crap what anyone says. Mosley vs Floyd/Pac winner will give us the true WW #1 without any doubts. Mosley didn't have to fight Vernon or Winky but he did. No one wanted to fight those guys. He could have taken easier fights and probably only have one loss now.
Seems like Mostly only beat Margo cause Margo was mentally drained by being caught cheating. the important thing is that Pac and Mayweather fight. Mosely get in line
Mosely old ass had better get rid of him before Round 8, because after that it will be curtains for the old geezer.
LOL. Mosley only beat Margo because he was mentally drained? Get the **** out of here. LOL. Margo faced the best person for the style that he fights. He fought a heavy handed brawler, and turns out his chin couldn't last forever. Paul Williams had the same style but not the power. The way Paul still fights that is a possibility.
Shane doesn't fall apart in fights. Paul won't stop him. Be terrible for Paul to get beat by an old man! :rasta
Margarito will justify Mosley when he returns and starts knocking people out again. Then people will see what a disservice was done to Mosley.
