Thats the truth of the matter mate. Right hand leads wins this fight for a fully focused Ali and a lot easier than most people think.
What has Louis's punching power got to do with wilting under Ali's onslaughts?? Ali would be landing shots, lots of shots on Louis's fragile whiskers, Ali takes the better shot and that's a fact. I think you need to go watch some more clips of Ali if you think he was featherfisted...
I don't have to watch some "clips" of Ali today. I saw him fight Joe Frazier in the FOTC...Where were you W ???
Joe would not out jab Ali,he would have to time perfect shots and have better defense anyway..ali would run circles around slow footed Louis. His slow methodical thinking just doesn't work here.Hes better technically but alis style and basically just footwork needed here wins him the fight,.
You and other posters are making Clay/Ali into some fistic God... He was not the reincarnation of Ray Robinson as a fighter. Not at all. He had to develop the rope-a-dope gimic because he didn't hit hard enough to hold off some of the big punchers for very long...But this rope-a-dope would not have worked against the young Joe Louis whose trip hammer combinations would have penetrated the defense of Ali sometimes in the fight for certain. And Joe Louis was able to absorb dozens and dozens of powerful right crosses from Max Schmeling who Nat Fleischer called having the best right hand in the heavyweights for 12 rounds before Louis was finally put away.... Ali, the best heavyweight of his era. Joe Louis the greatest most likely of ALL TIME...
