Interesting note about Ali's opponents...

well yeah except the circumstances of that statistic make it less unbievable. Archie was ancient when he fought Ali and so was george in 1994. But still I can see the magnitude of it.

 

He's referring to Floyd Patterson, not Archie Moore.

 

It might be a big ask, but has anyone ever calculated the win/loss record totals of Alis opponents?

Or any other heavyweights for that matter.

 

For Ali's opponents it would be 2130 wins, 593 losses, 85 draws.

 

Is there any easy way of calculating this?

 

It takes like 10 minutes with boxrec and a calculator.

 

He never fought a fighter with a losing record before winning the title.

Who cares about records,its what the persons record is before you fight them,you have guys with 4 losses in a row before ali fought them. Many having lost their previous fight. some turned out to be huge duds with 70% losing records in general,after they fought Ali. I don't really see many real opponents he fought in the 60's,thats common but they were extremely poor quality....I would count maybe 4 decent fighters that had a decent record . there were a few guys with losing records before they fought Ali. you are also claiming ali never fought anyone with a losing record...well how covienent when some guys had 9 losses and 15 wins...yes that is a winning record on paper and a quick fact you better have a second plan besides boxing!

Archie Moore also had a winning record ,he was also 2 decades past his prime! See statistically on PAPER it looks good but lets not get carried away,with making alis resume legendary strictly on bigging up statistics that don't matter with the time frame. :nono



biggest 3 wins that are relevant to the time line..... Mildenberger/Foreman/Norton based on those 3 wins that's where he should be judged resume wise.
