Sometimes a seemingly light but quick short shot that appears to be an arm punch can produce a knockdown.

    Watch Kimbo get dropped.

You have to consider this as a possibility for Ali-Liston II

Yeah, not when said fighter was proven to have a great chin and some of the greatest fighters of all time were present, such as Gene Tunney. Tunney himself felt it was a blatent fix.

I still think the Ali/Liston rematch was fixed.....NO way does Liston, even a past his best Liston, get dropped and seemingly hurt like he was from a short punch like that. Liston's acting was terrible by the way. At least with Kimbo he had never really proven his chin over the years as Liston did, so Kimbo's fall was much easier to stomach.

But damn, Kimbo is a scary freakin' guy! I'd love to see what a press conference between Sonny Liston and Kimbo Slice would be like......Or what the picture would look like when the two fighters came head to head for the obligatory face-off shot! Who would flinch first, if at all?

    Oh god, are you serious?

I've never been out to bust Kimbo's balls, he's a pretty hard guy for what he is but Liston was in prison over 20 times over the course of his career. He carried scars from his childhood having to drag a plow around on the farm. He fought through fights with a broken jaw and took bombs from one of the hardest hitting heavyweights of all time.

That short punch that dropped Liston is about a lot of timing and teqnique. Watch the movie, Ali change direction and drops that punch on Liston who walks right into it. That´s why he´s dropped.
The "ghostpunch" is very effective against powerfighters that comes straight ahead towards you. 9 out of 10 times they run right into it.

The punch was real. The "Liston not getting up" part was not.

I'm serious. I'm not trying to say that Kimbo Slice is a better fighter than Liston ever was; that would be absurd. I'm just talking about one tough guy who is intimidating meeting another tough guy who is intimidating. Boxing credentials aside.

The guy stumbled and fell, and the other guy went ape **** on him. How is this in any way comparable to Ali KOing Liston?

Besides, wasn't that investigated for being a fix as well?

No way it was a fix, an entire company is going bankrupt because it's star was knocked out there.

Guy that knocked him out was actually paid more money to keep the fight off the ground. Hardly a fix.

For the record, Liston did get up. Liston was never given a count. When Liston did rise (before referee Walcott ever gave him a count), he at least somewhat tried to defend the onslaught, but was clearly hurt. But, he didn't quit, and he didn't lie down and take the ten-count.

When the knockdown took place, Liston was coming forward. The forward momentum of his jab caused him to run his chin right into Ali's beautifully timed right that was lightning fast, landed on the jaw (you can see Sonny's jaw and head buckle in the slow-mo version) and Sonny never even saw it coming. It was a shock surprise blow which had more effect because of its speed, fact that Liston didn't see it, and fact that Liston doubled its power by running himself right into it. Just watch Ali land that same perfect counter right on Cleveland Williams and Zora Folley. Your legs just go. Keep in mind also that Lison had only fought like twice in the two years prior to Ali I and both were 1st round KOs, and the Ali II fight was over a year after Ali I. The aging Liston wasn't exactly what you call fight sharp.
