Interesting comments from the Conway interview. What do you think?

"So in light of Saturday's fight, do you think perspective on Pacquiao vs. Mayweather has changed and if so, how?"

"Not at all. Pacquiao-Mayweather has polarized the boxing community, with divides along nationalistic, philosophical, even racial lines. Worse, it's spread to affect the very people who are paid to be above that kind of polarization - the press. It's sad to watch, because being the small community we are, we die-hard boxing fans, we are expected to be better analysts and supporters of the art, and not simply drawn into fan-worship like in sports with more casual fan bases. People have already drawn battle lines and I'm afraid there's not much that can really undraw them".

"As one of the few voices of reason in boxing, if Pacquiao and Mayweather ever fight, how do you see things shaking out?"

"I think trainers and writers have analyzed that fight to death in all manner of scenarios, I being among them. I could burnish my credentials by going into an in-depth analysis of tendencies, elbow tucking, footwork, and 'ah ha' moments during footage review to make myself sound smart. But frankly it's all unnecessary and a little self-serving. If you're looking for a pick, a quick elevator pitch to give to listeners, there's one important perspective to consider that really says all that needs to be said. Pacquiao is boxing's premier offensive fighter. Mayweather is boxing's premier defensive fighter. You won't find anybody in our sport better at what they do best than those two. But consider this: in any sport, whether it's soccer, basketball, football, hockey, baseball, MMA, or even boxing, all things being relatively equal, a good defense will almost always beat a good offense. We've seen that truth play out time and again. Barring any massive age or inactivity-related decline, I don't expect it to be any different here, either. Now, if only someone could convince Floyd of that!"

He should go spread his message to men who make a living off of boxing and have a career in following it like Al Bernstein before preaching about fans. Al's a paid professional who researched less facts than boxing fans in his analysis for this fight. Compubox is active for nearly every fight. It should be a common sense for a professional to pull up those statistics and actually look at them before sharing his opinion.

Good read and he's right. Defense win championships especially when youre the best counter puncher and best defensive fighter in the sport. Floyd needs to stop bullshitting and expose the media hypejob.

this is true about a good defense usually always beats a good offense but you go to look at it from a psychological point of you, if you are afraid to take a punch and you are scared of a boxer's power, how will that effect your performance.

Goes both ways. If you can't hit a moving target and say this moving target is great at countering and exposing flaws, how will that effect your performance when youre used to playing rockem sockem for the majority of your career?

That is exactly why the top 10 p4p fighters ever were predominately offensive type fighters. I can't recall the Chicago Bulls when Jordan was around was better at defense than they were at offensive.

Arum wants to milk Pacquiao and still make huge money by having him face easier opponents, before letting him face Floyd. Look at what a big event it was the other day. Even casual fans were talking to me about it.

Manny is allowing Arum to do this.

Floyd figures "good, Manny will have more wear and tear on his body by the time I face him, I can also make a lot by facing easier opponents".

No one is blameless here, if both sides wanted it bad enough it would be made.

I'll get into a stylistic analysis when the fight is actually made.

Defense doesn't necessarily = win. Otherwise, as a Chicago Bears fan I would surely have seen a superbowl victory more recent than 86.

Defense always wins champions? Not in boxing. In boxing we have something called styles. You don't have that in basketball and football. It's a dumb comparison. Certain styles will usually beat other styles, but it's not always the case.. and it's not as clear cut as "counter-puncher beats aggressive fighter" , there are too many other variables.
