Rua is the better technical striker. The thing with Hendo is he really, really knows how to time and how to distance his right hand. He sort of hides it and can loop it. If you throw say a right leg kick to his left leg, he can and will step into the kick to throw the wild right. Even though this is a long bomb that is somewhat telegraphed, he hides it by turning his body, and he is uncannily accurate with it. Just a very hard thing to be ready for. Hendo is just so durable that he can take the strikes in order to land that one big bomb, he has had so much success with it, and is so confident in it that it is like having a crocop left leg in his back pocket to rely on. Everyone is aware of it and wary of it, but it's not so easy to avoid.
Good post.... BUT Dan has never been a WW, he has always been a big MW/small LHW, a bit like Wanderlei.
Hendo is one of those fighters like a bernard hopkins and a Randy couture. These guys that get better as they get older, were as shogun's body has gone through some wear and tear and won't have access to his most devasting strikes which are his knees , which so happens to have had surgery at least numeris times.
The only prime ChuteBoxe fighter that ever tooled Hendo was a prime Wandy in their first fight. That was a looooong time ago and that version of Wand much like this version of Rua doesn't exist anymore. Rua will stay in the cup and although he has a solid beard Hendo has an excpetional chin. I can count on one hand the amount of times iv seen him truly hurt let alone buzzed in a fight. Plus his left hook and over hand right are lethal. Rua can be hit and at will. Toe to toe this isn't a war this version of Rua can win.
Both guys have serious chins, Hendo more test than Rua, although Rua proved his ruggedness in that serious beating he took at the hands of Jones. One thing to keep in mind is that Hendo tends to keep his chin tucked, if Im not mistaken, even when he swings for the fences, so usually he gets hit on the top of the head. I believe Rampage mentioned something to the extent that Hendo has a seriously hard head. If anyone is going to get sparked, I see Rua possibly gassing and getting stopped late but not sparked with one punch.
No-one knows about Hendo's secret weapon, except anyone who has ever seen him fight before. Shhhhhhhhhhhhh...
You said that last time about Rua vs Jones. On styles alone Rua will have a very tough time against Hendo. Im expecting Hendo to TKO him mid to late.
There are a few fighters that have never been sparked before like Chris Lytle, Anderson Silva and Fedor before he lost due to an early stoppage against Hendo But he has a very good chin but Rua has a good granite chin too not to the same extent as Hendo but he has some good striking cant see this fight getting stopped due to a pure KO
I saw all of the Jones/Rua fight yesterday and it wouldn't have been one-sided with the Rua of Pride. Back to Rua/Hendo, if anyone gets ko'd I think it would be Rua though both are very sturdy and even the Rua now had to take a bad beating in order to be tko'd. I'd be shocked if one of them was sparked out. Rua is the better striker but although Henderson appears crude, he is a master of distance and of course has that big right. Should be a great fight along with Santos/Velasquez today.
Punch for punch, Henderson has the most powerful ground and pound in the entire sport. Henderson can finish anyone if he lands clean. This content is protected This content is protected
Hendo is the current ATG for sustained career punch resistance. His Chin is a testament to all that is right and proper about Mandibular Fortitude.
