No offense but I was there at the time and Holmes was already considered one of the greats well before Cooney.
Two posts above yours. Plus. How many are as dull as Cobb, Zanon, Shavers I & II (save for one fleeting minute), Frank, Spinks I & II… I could go on & on & on. Ney. Feb13, 2024
Yeah but Ney is a certified Holmes hater and he's sarcastic alot of the time with his hate of a fighter.
Why, though? His best win prior to Cooney - maybe even after Cooney - was an ageing Norton. I suppose Norton himself has an inflated reputation, though.
I don’t understand where this is coming from. I know a few people haven’t taken me seriously when I’ve pointed out Holmes is (probably) stealing from nuns & (allegedly) involved in Satanic rituals with his buddies Felix Trinidad & Naseem Hamed, but don’t let the puppets & foot soldiers of these demons fool you.
True enough but Holmes, who i have long criticized for his woeful and very public cherry picking post Cooney, has a heap of really entertaining fights. I put the reasons forward early in the thread. Weaver and Norton were two super fights to watch and i have a soft spot for his fight with Witherspoon, **** got real in the second half. He's got some dull fights, sure, but many of them have. In tougher fights he was prone to plant his feet on regular occasions.
I think most know by now the singles that charted. Larry's Greatest Hits compilation? Anthology don't quite fit. Best of might. You can do "Greatest Misses". Devo had an album named just that. A solid label if ever i saw one.
