What's better for interval training, an exercise bike or a rowing machine? I want to start interval training cause my conditioning is terrible. i live in a city so sprints are impractical. Thanks in advance
Do sprints on a treadmill, ramp up the speed, then drop, and then repeat. Exercise bike tigthens your hamstrings, apparently.
Vary it. Interval training is good for the heart. We still think that we are prey and so need to work in intervals.
If you're out of shape, then you want to build an aerobic base before starting any anaerobic activity or interval training. Cos without any stamina, you're interval training will poop out real quick and you'll still be in bad shape. You might develop tremendous output for a round or two, then pppffffffffffttt... flat tire. Get in 30-40 minute runs, or biking, or rowing, or vary them... for a month. Then start interval training with 20 second bursts gradually building up the length of time per interval and increasing the number of intervals. But still keep doing the aerobic work on separate days. Then gradually incorporate the interval training while doing the aerobic work.... meaning, instead of taking total breaks between intervals, continue with aerobic activity during breaks. For instance, you would combine the jogging and sprinting into one workout. So, instead of sprinting, resting, sprinting, resting, you would sprint, keep jogging, sprint, keep jogging, etc...
