yup, and he kind of went into a shell for that round....which is a reason why i love paul, the way he came back was amazing...
I think he can be hurt to the head, it's just hard to get a perfectly clean shot. I thought Quintana had him a bit jarred a few times. Nothing that made him look anywhere close to going down, but he got his attention for sure. But I think you're right...someone who invests in the body may have good results.
the way he folded margo in the first round was ****en class.....he was like "listen U ****EN MEXICAN, I CAN PUNCH TO THE BODY TOO" ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh i love mosleys punches, he wants to ****en kill and shatter every single thought you have of beating him with every punch....
In theory, going to Williams' body sounds good - but, in practice it's a lot harder than it seems. First, Williams knows how to use his height and reach, he smartly keeps himself at bay. Shooting from the outside. His opponents have to almost lunge in to throw body shots. Secondly, Williams is a rapid counterpuncher, so he makes them pay when they come in close with quick hooks and uppercuts. He's got so much zone to work with, he's in total control on both offense and defense. Winky admits he was baffled and frustrated by Williams' freakish height and reach. He couldn't get anything going. Williams' non-stop workrate and variety of punches also intimidates opponents. They never know what angle they'll be hit from. So the body attack sounds good - but, it comes at a high cost.
When I saw the thread title, my first thought was that you had some kind of pyramid/Ponzi scheme going. Brilliant! :rofl For some reason, nearly all the Mexican labor vanished from my area and got replaced by Guatemalans who are much less fun to chat with. :think I don't see it as counter-punching; more like that it's rare to see someone who can counter in combinations, so that when the counter's being launched, Williams already has two punches out of the gate with even more coming before the counter even hits. (If it hits at all, that is. PW has shown some nice distance control and occasional cuteness when at the wrong range.) Williams would need to be hit with combinations by a guy who doesn't mind losing points, is tough enough to withstand a buzzsaw of unanswered punches, and can continually get to the proper range for each flurry over and over again. Maybe a Kirkland after he gets some tactics drilled into that skull over the next 2 fights.
Since PW was talking about "someone at 168 who is retired" and with all the Calzaghe-PW talk....I'd love to see PW take a Calzaghe right hook to the body.
Honestly bro....I don't think Kirkland is in the same stratosphere...neither is Angulo. It would be exciting but incredibly one sided. Santos might be able to give Paul trouble but again....you said it, he's a freak of nature. His work rate and lanky build at the lower weights make him damn near impossible to beat unless you can take his onslaught without worry and walk him down. Marg and for a couple of rounds Wink tried the body but they both ended up loosing. So maybe someone who stays committed to going to the body might have a better shot.....that is if they have a sound defense to avoid the counter shots Paul will surely be slinging their way. The body is a catch 22....it's great and it pays dividends if you are consistant and effective but it also leaves you very open to counters.....easier to target but also makes you an easier target.
It wasn't too close, I mean PW won the first 6 rounds , Margarito took 7 to 10. then PW came on strong at the end.
Yea , he nailed Margo with a full power right hand to the soloplex and he doubled over because of it... that punch was a "oh ****" moment for Margo.
