No fighter ever was invincible, all could have been defeated. The closest I would say to being invincible would be the lightweight Duran from about '76 to his final fight with DeJesus. While there are some (really just Whitaker based on styles) that I would give a chance of beating him, the Duran of the 3rd DeJesus fight looks perfect. That Duran is the best fighter I have ever seen. Also, unfortunately the footage doesn't exist to prove it, but Robinson at welter could only have been better than Robinson at Middle, and there isn't a fighter in the history of the division I favor over him. I would probably favor Ezzard Charles in peak form over any fighter from LHW or lower.
I suspect that Calzaghe is going to remain undefeated into retirement. If ithere's one thing that Hatton and Joe have taught me, is that 0's mean little these days.
You'd have to go back to the "mix-two-fighters-together" thread from back at the beginning of the summer to find someone who could reasonably be argued to be invincible. In other words, no real fighter.:good
Roy Jones Junior at prime SMW WAS invincible. That is where I will always remember him. Even putting his strength and speed to the side- he was such a presence in the opponents head- even THEY made him out to be untouchable. RJR at SMW would need an opponent with kryptonite gloves with the ring-name "Doomsday" to be toppled.
The originator of this thread asked "at their prime and the peak of their abilities was invincible" The answer = Joe Calzaghe He has been the most adaptable fighter of the last 25 years. Deal with it.
Roy Jones at his best was marvelous.. Ali on his best night in his prime could perhaps be untouchable.. even by the great Jou Louis
And got up and gave had good slapping over 12 rounds in the Yanks own backyard cos Bernie ain`t got a passport. Calzaghe is a born winner. Man how you wish he was American don`t you.
