Just today I was watching the old Barkly/Toney fight on youtube. Iran had lots of heart. Good power to but little skill. He deserves a better life than this.
Duran-Barkley is easily one of the top 5 fights ive ever seen. Iran was a legitimate 3 weight champion during one of the toughest eras in boxing history. Pension plans should be in place while these guys are active to secure their futures. Yes, Iran had millions and didnt invest well, but thats not uncommon among ex-fighters and it cant be ignored that a lot of fighters do end up broke.
Wow, I remember when the Blade was on top of the world, a champ. He wasn't the most talented fighter in the world, but what heart! The dude gave his all every time in the ring. And he could crack pretty damn good too.
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/03/25/sports/25barkley.html?_r=1 Take it for what its worth, but Arum in this article says Barkley gambled alot of his money away.
Sad to hear I actually met the Blade at a bodega in the Bronx before a Yankee game buying a blunt ..He was very approachable but sad to hear this !
The Blade always fought like a warrior he didnt deserve that TKO loss to Benn he was fine regardless of the 3 knockdowns. imagine if JMM-Pac was stopped, stupid rule does any commission still institute that rule?
Sad to hear. I am assuming that all those boxing fans who resent boxers who put focus on maximizing their career earnings and respect those die-in-the-ring-for-the-'fans'-entertainment types will kick in and take care of the Blade now that he is destitude, right? Right?
