This is ridiculous. This is Barkley's fault. Say Barkley earned 5 million dollars on Wall Street? No one would say he should have a fund to take care of him because he was not smart with his money. He would be considered careless for squandering his hard earned money. This is his fault and no one elses. I feel bad, but he had 5 million more than many guys on the street. And he blames Leonard for not fighting him or ducking him? Why did Ray have to fight him? Duran already beat Barkley and Barkley got famous fighting his Ray's other buddy Thomas Hearns. It isn't about Ray or Duran or Hearns, it is about a guy who earned 5 million and did not watch his money.

that same materialism exists in the majority of western minds, yet a good amount of these people still manage to make conscious business decisions. that certainly cannot be said about most boxers. furthermore, I wasn't old enough to really observe the 80's boxing scene and the lives of boxers, but I've never heard of Iran Barkley being extravagant in his lifestyle. there are boxers who were cheated throughout their career and left for dead at the end of it, like tim witherspoon for example. the lack of business savvy definitely hurt him, and I doubt Iran Barkley would be in his current predicament if he had even an ounce of it, or at least guidance from the people who benefited from his blood and guts

I am not sure. Can you imagine the pressure put on a fighter when he doesn't have much and then starts to earn millions? Everyone must be coming to him asking him for money and cars. Sometimes I think the worst thing which can happen to a person is if they win the lottery. Our friends and family which we hardly hear from would absolutely want some of that money and they would try to become out best friends at the point of us getting the money.

And too many fighters are IDIOTS with their money.

My feelings are that if you make multi millions in the ring over your career, and find yourself broke, it's your own fault.

You very rarely find a homeless person who is not broke. It's a lifestyle seldom chosen by the rich

man, stop making excuses for the man. Fighters like Bazooka Quartey properly invested their money and own property.

I am not sure. When you are that famous you can do shows and be introduced and get paid for appearances at boxing shows. Barkley is not in that status.

It seems we're in the minority, but I'm with you on this one! I feel terrible about these situations but ****, I work 60 hrs a week and yeah I got a pension but I have to work 30 yrs to make 5 million dollars. If I went out today and blew $100k on a car and bet $25k on Monday Night Football would there be some organization rallying to pick me back up??? These guys need to be more responsible with their money, that's all.

Right! Its sad to see a guy homeless and broke but a lot of these guys you could give them 300 million and they would still be in the same situation. They have noone to blame but themselves. They could have saved their money and spent less, thats the bottom line.

Its hard to feel bad for anyone who has had the chance to make millions of dollars and blows it all.

**** Arum!!! He's riding high, he's not the one who's homeless or in a bad financial predicament!

Barkley may have gambled, but there is NO doubt in my mind the leeches were out in full force when he had money. Now he has nothing, they have moved on, the wankers!
