Barkley plastered Tommy Hearns. Could Barkley have had his moment against 1952 Sugar Ray Robinson?

    Robinson whoops him painfully.
He doesn't see the last round for sure.

    Robinson massacres him.

Barkley would be made to cover up earmuffs style because, if he didn’t, Robinson’s lightening speed and timing would allow him to land clean at will.

When he does cover up, he’ll be taking uppercuts, left hooks to the body and head, Robinson would find ways through the guard, and he’d be stepping onto right hands and anytime he dared to open with so much as a jab, he’d be punished.

His corner pulls him out mid-late rounds.

I say Robinson by TKO after 3 rounds and after knocking down Barkley several times. Sugar Ray was too skilled for the brave Iran.

Whilst I don't disagree, considering the similar physiques and stylistic nuances of SRR and Tommy - what is it that you see Robbi doing so successfully that Tommy didn't do against Iran?

In my opinion one of Hearns' flaws was that sometimes he was tactically wrong in managing some moments of the match, that's how he lost in the first match with Barkley. Robinson instead knew when it was the right time to do something and when it wasn't the right time to do it, he had a great Ring IQ. This quality, together with speed, defense, footwork and technical completeness allowed him to face and beat different types of boxers, including a great brawler like Jake LaMotta, I don't think Barkley was a better brawler than LaMotta and I think Robinson would have had no problem reading Barkley's boxing and giving him a boxing lesson.

I would also add that Robbi had much better survivability than Tommy, better distance negotiation and arguably just as much power with better finishing ability and killer instincts.

I can't disagree with what you've said, although I do think the fight goes longer and it's perhaps a rounds 7 - 10 stoppage. That said, the way that Duran was catching Barkley at times, I could really see Robbi walking Barkley onto something really vicious and nasty ala Fullmer.

    Robinson lights Barkley up terribly.

Robinson by KO. It would be an even worse beating than Toney gave Barkley

Damn .. I picked Robinson decision while most picked Robinson KO. Didn't Blade have the cajones to stick it out?

I’m not picking Iran Barkley…..but he was a huge middleweight….physical strong …and he liked it on the inside….he could give Sugar Ray Robinson some of the same problems that Gene Fullmer and Carmen Basilio did

Hearns couldnt finish Barkley off, but SRR most certaintly would. But in all likeliness, Robinson would have to carry him for the 15
