He is underrated and it pisses me off when the Pavlik fans say Pavlik would destroy him.

 

I don't think so. I do not think Barkley would have gone down for good with Benn. Benn would not have been as pumped up in round 2 and I think Iran would have come back and stopped him like he did Olajide. That 3 knockdown rule really hurt Iran in that fight.

 

Both fighters were aware of this 3 rule KD, Barkley shouldn't have gone down 3 times in 1 rounds! having said that, it was an exciting round, and had it gone on, who knows how exciting it may have been, however, Benn would still have won.

 

When they signed to fight I knew Duran would win this fight. Of all the styles to be matched with, this style was made for Roberto. Had Michael Olajide been champion, he would have beaten Duran easily.. Styles make fights.

 

Benn iced that brother in a round in his prime, Benn was one bad mofo.:yep

I guess I would qualify as a "old timer" to you as I was an adult following boxing closely at that time, and I don't remember that fight at all being a "robbery." As near as I can recall - and it's been 20 years so my aging brain cells are having trouble recollecting - it was a close fight that Duran cinched with a late knockdown.

 

Apart from beating Hearns he lost all of his biggest fights. Great resume but I say he misses out on the HOF.

I'm an old timer too, but I never saw the fight so I am only going by the discussions I've heard from people who have.

I hate to make this into another Calzaghe thread but...

That sucks because here is a guy who actually fought a ATGs in his (relative) prime and won, and because he has losses, (despite great showings) he won't be considered for the HOF. While guys like Calzaghe and PBF go around cherry picking fights and bums to pad their record, and most fans say these guys deserve to be in the Hall without even earning it.

There is no ****ing justice in the world.:-(

 

Fair point but I cant see him getting in based on losing most of his big fights even if they were against ATG's.

 

Just having some fun, guy. But yeah, the way I remember that fight is as a pretty close contest where Duran pulled it out with the KD. But as you know, people can see fights very differently. And sites like this would pretty damn dead if they didn't.:hey

Anyway, Barkley was a decent fighter. Not the most talented certainly, but he had a lot of heart and could hit a bit. He's better than just a look at his record suggests - for, like many guys, he fought on way too long and accumulated many loses late in his career.
