Throwing bombs? I think Spinks would get the better of this one. Maybe if Murphy fought a smart fight..who knows..he might make it to the limit, but I ddoubt it.
but spinks was a vastly superior boxer. when he had to, or when it was smart, he had the movement and slipperiness to avoid brawls and box from the outside. spinks UD
Michael was smart enough and had the tools to apply the principles of hooking to the body and unloading right hand leads to the head of the southpaw. Clarence Henry showed that Bob could be knocked out, and Marvin Johnson's southpaw swatting posed no particular issues for Michael, who had legitimate heavyweight power. At some point, the Jinx will find it's mark. Murph had best jump on Michael at the opening bell to take advantage of Michael's slow start, but it wouldn't be enough.
I saw Irish Bob Murphy live...He was the lightheavyweight edition of Lew Jenkins. While Murphy was a southpaw, and Sweetwater Lew, Orthodox, both their passions were booze. brawls and motorcycles...kindred souls were they. Michael Spinks was too wily for Murphy, and too crafty. He wins by a tko in a late round.
