I would like to bring a team of fighters over there from here. Phil Connor from Ringsport Belfast has put the idea there, airfares are a hassle though. Getting the fighters to go would be easy.

No it wasn't as it was contested in America ,and RTE would only show a fight outside Ireland if it were Dunne , or possibly Duddy or Lee now .

***an has fought on RTE before though against Jeff Thomas(who is a regular on the British forum) and highlights of his fight with Chill John were shown aswell .

That would be a great idea. Belfast and the greater Belfast area has around 30 clubs, some have big membership numbers some haven,t. The Dockers, Holy Trinity and Holy Family Club travel extensively. They travel mostly to America and Britain, there's also a club from Cyprus comes to Belfast on a regular basis or vice a versa. It would be a great idea to bring a Belfast team to New Zealand.
But funding for such a trip as you have mentioned is the main problem. There's various grants available to fund projects like this[ all part of the peace process], but they can be difficult to obtain.
But if your anyway serious about this Shamrock,I could look into this more closely.

I was a big fan of Cooney also. Being from Belfast we took great pride in an Irishman [ all be it an Irish-American] fighting for the heavyweight championship of the world.
If Jerry Quarry have had fought in any other era of heavyweight boxing,he would have been world champ. His destruction of Shavers is testament to that.

Happy New Year Ardy!! Yup, you're the first person to call me on it too. I own a small Plumbing business and do new construction. I don't like (and won't do) service or maintenance plumbing because that can be some nasty ****!!! Those new pipes are never nasty!

I agree with ya that my boy Pavlik had better show up with his A++ game or it could be trouble as Taylor will be looking for revenge. My worst fear is that Taylor pull it off, then how's everybody gonna view Pavlik as still the Champ??

    GO IRISH BOXING!!!!

We have access to funding in NZ ardy, we intend to do a couple of trips to Australia this year as a team. Funding home tho would be immense, we not only work a Club tho, we have the Shamrock Association which might have more clout with the funding organisations. We just need the brains and time to get it in the process. We are so far away, but its imperative for NZ boxers to go further than Aust if we are to be able to compete at world standards. Basically we need Ireland and UK.

Hello Pipe wrenched, happy new year to yourself and family.I used to work at the plumbing myself. I travelled the world, me and my trusty toolbox.:yep I worked in Sydney Australia, London England, Cologne Germany, Tash Kent Uzbekistan [a break away republic from the old Soviet Union] and I even worked in Icemans home town of Cushendall [ strange people, they all walk around carrying hurls all the time].

I know what you mean, when you talk about old instalations. I've experienced some stressful days at that end of the job myself.:yikes

I think the first step is to open a dialogue with a boxing club or number of clubs here in the north. As I said before clubs from various amount of countries fight here all the time. I dont see any reason why a team from N Zealand cant tour here either or vice a versa.:happy

Ardy, I certainly am interested in our young fighters getting a chance to travel and fight in Ireland. My real focus is to get the experience for these ones to liven their attraction to the sport and give them something to look forward to. Yes mate, I am into it.

We get fighters to NZ from my sons gym in Aust, I mean to return the favor this year as well. These kids would be blown away by a trip to Ireland. Kids?> 15 to 18yrs! Couple older! Seniors.

Ardy - have you any idea where tickets can be got for this - I'm based in Galway (originally from Derry) so Limerick is only an hour away - grateful for any help.
